It's worse. The Scheels deal was for the Sapphire version which has sapphire glass, titanium bezel, double the internal storage, and multi-band GPS. The Scheels deal had other discounts that made it even better too

For those on the fence of using an AMOLED Garmin watch, let me debunk some common misconceptions
1. For those that hate the idea of having to flick the wrist to turn the screen on, these have a mode called AOD always on display. This will keep the screen on all the time so no black screens and needing to turn the wrist to activate.
2. The always on display uses pixel shift tech so you don't have to worry about screen burn in.
3. Battery life is still several days even with AOD on so you don't have to charge everyday like a Samsung or Apple watch. And that's taking into consideration several daily exercise activities into the equation.
4. Garmin AMOLED screens are easy to see even outside in bright daylight. The idea that only the old Fenix MIPS displays are the only ones that are good outside in bright sunlight and AMOLED is not is bogus.

It is not Sapphire glass. It is gorilla glass. The Garmin Epix (Gen 2) 47mm Slate Steel with Graphite Band features a durable Corning Gorilla Glass lens. This material is known for its scratch resistance and durability, making it suitable for active lifestyles. In contrast, the Sapphire Edition of the Epix (Gen 2) comes with a sapphire crystal lens, which offers enhanced scratch resistance compared to Gorilla Glass.

I keep a tempered glass screen protector on my Epix, works perfectly and no reason not to. I've cracked a few of the protectors slamming my wrist into rocks, etc. Watch is still in pristine condition

It was definitely longer than a few hours. The next deal was the $400 titanium and white version. Which I think is worth the extra $50 for the sapphire but I'm not tied to the color of the bezel.

This watch is kinda big/heavy, but solidly built and very nice IMHO.
