All that said, this is a great deal. The usual "Windows on ARM" disclaimers, make sure you research what programs you'll specifically need, this isn't for everyone, blah blah blah. But for a good many users, this is a solid machine.

The catch: Windows on ARM. Do your research. If you can live with WoA (most people should be able to), you'll absolutely love this thing.
The older x86 version costs twice as much, and this laptop is better in many respects. Yet it's not selling because of WoA. Only 0.8% of new PCs sold in Q3 2024 were Windows on ARM! Google it. Less than 1 in 125.

This will replace a janky cheapo Lenovo with a piece of the cover broken off and not enough storage. (Nothing against Lenovo - they make good machines - we just went a bit too cheap.)
Things I really like about this laptop are the build quality, svelte profile (I carry a lot of devices when traveling), long battery life, Thunderbolt 4 support (works with my Dell dock), and USB-C power support (allows me to carry fewer power adapters when traveling). I was comparing it to the $500 HP deal at Walmart, and decided to spend a little extra for the above features.
I suspect some folks may be turned off if the ARM architecture isn't yet supported by a printer, scanner, or similar device that they don't want to replace. I doubt my old HP LaserJet will ever be supported, but I likely will replace it anyway when the current toner cartridge finally runs out. For now the MS generic driver is enough for my wife's purposes. (She doesn't use duplexing and the like.)
Installed/Working
Dell Dock WD19S
Anker USB C Hub, 341 USB-C Hub (7-in-1)
Picasa 3.9 (Final)
Quicken 2016 R19.5 (requires work arounds unrelated to WoA)
Avast
Acrobat Reader
Firefox
Chrome
iTunes
Logitech C920 webcam
Working, but took some effort/workaround
Brother MFC-J995DW printer/scanner (everything but scanning from the printer (and pushing it to the Surface versus a pull from the Surface) works after installing driver built-in to OS along with x86 app package)
old HP LaserJet (used generic MS PCL driver built into OS)
Not compatible/Requires additional workaround
Epson Perfection V600 (no driver yet)
CloneZilla (tested both AMD and experimental ARM versions)
VeraCrypt (tried an old version, haven't checked compatibility with new versions but Veracrypt is not terribly important for this device)
I guess if you really want the tablet form-factor.Nevermind, this isn't a tablet. Misled by the wrong title here on Slickdeals. This is the "Surface Laptop", not the Surface (which also has Windows-on-ARM and is a tablet.Sign up for a Slickdeals account to remove this ad.

My work gave me an Intel-based Surface for work, so I kinda fell in love with the build quality. The Vivobook might have great build quality too - I just haven't seen one in person.
It's amazing to take this thing for a 1 day trip and not need to bring a charging cable with it!!! And performance on work apps and web usage is snappy.
I don't game so I'll leave that to others.

I like this laptop a lot as I've been testing it for my basic uses. it's great! however, with the new version coming out next year with lunar lake, these might get dumped. I'm not really sure what to do
