I don't know where you're getting the "no NPU" thing, think it's standard on the chip and it's advertised with this laptop.

All that said, this is a great deal. The usual "Windows on ARM" disclaimers, make sure you research what programs you'll specifically need, this isn't for everyone, blah blah blah. But for a good many users, this is a solid machine.

Yeah when drafting the post, I was using the online compare feature on Microcenter to figure out if there were any differences compared to the recent $799 deal. The tool said "N/A" under NPU. I took a deeper look at the description and have since removed that line of the post.

Smoking deal on the best Windows laptop out there!
The catch: Windows on ARM. Do your research. If you can live with WoA (most people should be able to), you'll absolutely love this thing.
The older x86 version costs twice as much, and this laptop is better in many respects. Yet it's not selling because of WoA. Only 0.8% of new PCs sold in Q3 2024 were Windows on ARM! Google it. Less than 1 in 125.
I have no problem using it arm-based machine but I'm a little disappointed there's no stylist support. To me that's like pretty much the reason to get a surface device is because you want to use the stylus and probably already have older surface devices so your accessories will transfer over

It's actually a little confusing the way it's worded. Black Friday week is listed as an exclusion. But also, for all of December, you get the "Holiday Price Match Guarantee", and that doesn't include matching competitors. It's not really clear whether you can still use the normal price match during the time that the holiday price match is in effect.
In any case they did price match this laptop for me and many others in this thread. There was an issue where system was not allowing price match as the new price would be less than their lowest price, but they did a post purchase price match for me by refunding the difference.

I've finished my setup and my results are below so people have a sense of compatibility. The use case for this laptop is primarily office tools, web browsing, finances, printing/scanning documents, video meetings, iTunes, and such. My wife will be the user 90% of the time, and I was able to get everything critical and even "nice to have" working for that use case. We won't be adding many "niche" or legacy programs. I'm planning to keep this laptop.

This will replace a janky cheapo Lenovo with a piece of the cover broken off and not enough storage. (Nothing against Lenovo - they make good machines - we just went a bit too cheap.)

Things I really like about this laptop are the build quality, svelte profile (I carry a lot of devices when traveling), long battery life, Thunderbolt 4 support (works with my Dell dock), and USB-C power support (allows me to carry fewer power adapters when traveling). I was comparing it to the $500 HP deal at Walmart, and decided to spend a little extra for the above features.

I suspect some folks may be turned off if the ARM architecture isn't yet supported by a printer, scanner, or similar device that they don't want to replace. I doubt my old HP LaserJet will ever be supported, but I likely will replace it anyway when the current toner cartridge finally runs out. For now the MS generic driver is enough for my wife's purposes. (She doesn't use duplexing and the like.)

Installed/Working
Dell Dock WD19S
Anker USB C Hub, 341 USB-C Hub (7-in-1)
Picasa 3.9 (Final)
Quicken 2016 R19.5 (requires work arounds unrelated to WoA)
Avast
Acrobat Reader
Firefox
Chrome
iTunes
Logitech C920 webcam

Working, but took some effort/workaround
Brother MFC-J995DW printer/scanner (everything but scanning from the printer (and pushing it to the Surface versus a pull from the Surface) works after installing driver built-in to OS along with x86 app package)
old HP LaserJet (used generic MS PCL driver built into OS)

Not compatible/Requires additional workaround
Epson Perfection V600 (no driver yet)
CloneZilla (tested both AMD and experimental ARM versions)
VeraCrypt (tried an old version, haven't checked compatibility with new versions but Veracrypt is not terribly important for this device)

Weird cause I've pm'd this laptop 3 times with best buy already this weekend lol. Why are you trying to confuse people

If you mean the Asus one, it has a far better screen, same processor+RAM+SSD. Trying to figure out why anyone would choose this Surface even at sale price vs the Vivobook. I guess if you really want the tablet form-factor. Nevermind, this isn't a tablet. Misled by the wrong title here on Slickdeals. This is the "Surface Laptop", not the Surface (which also has Windows-on-ARM and is a tablet.
Which Vivobook? There's a number of Vivobooks on the FP.

If Microsoft adopts nix under the hood and just have wine to support legacy software, I wonder if it would be better, since many games run on nix and many device drivers have nix versions. Start with x64 + nix and gradually make it to ARM nix.

This one, which I have and if you want a Snapdragon-based laptop, this is a steal:

Any good video editing programs for Windows on arm? I have my MacBook Air but I would love to jump the windows if I can.
Davinci Resolve 19 has an arm native option. Works well

That seems like a great deal as well, similar specs.

My work gave me an Intel-based Surface for work, so I kinda fell in love with the build quality. The Vivobook might have great build quality too - I just haven't seen one in person.

Any heat problem with the laptop? Is it hot, cold or warm on the bottom?
I have the same laptop with Elite Snapdragon processor and in the month I've had it the fan has not turned on yet. It runs very cool and as a IT leader at my company we have had zero applications we use not work on this device including the Dell docking stations and docking stations monitors. Even our AV peripherals that are USB C dongles have all worked.
It's amazing to take this thing for a 1 day trip and not need to bring a charging cable with it!!! And performance on work apps and web usage is snappy.
I don't game so I'll leave that to others.

It does seem like these are dropping pretty fast. However, I don't think Microsoft will let these go super low fire sale prices as it's supposed to be a MacBook competitor. However, next year a lunar lake version is coming out so I'm not sure what that will do to the prices for these laptops.

I like this laptop a lot as I've been testing it for my basic uses. it's great! however, with the new version coming out next year with lunar lake, these might get dumped. I'm not really sure what to do
Intel is even giving up on Lunar Lake as they said the first batch was a "one off".
