That article is almost a year old. I recall reading a more recent follow up that said they had 7 incidents on record and through interviews discovered 3 of the cases had the seat improperly rotated while moving. It only locks forward or backward facing, so I'm guessing that means people had it rotated toward the side or at an angle to access the child.

I have this seat and while I haven't been in an accident, there's no wobble once it clicks into place and it's been a huge backsaver getting our toddler into the tiny backseat (Ford fusion car). Just make sure to register the product in case there is a recall. Also click it into place/check the lock indicator is green, and never rotate the seat while moving.

Edit to add: If there is a official recall, you're entitled to a repair, replacement, or refund. It wouldn't make sense for them to be 'clearing inventory' because they know a recall is coming. It would be cheaper for them to just throw them out over the customer outreach and refund processing.

If it's going to be recalled they would not sell it.

Would cost more to recall these than to directly trash them.

Lots of anecdotal information about evenflo clearing this out as a "bad sign" of an impending recall. I agree that companies wouldn't clear an item out knowing it's about to be recalled, because that would just add to the recall work if/when it does occur.
Instead, what I suspect is happening, is word of this investigation has spread to the extent it has affected their sales significantly, which has prompted them to offer deeper discounts.
I have two of these, and I absolutely love them.

The article is from almost a year ago. Has there been any updates to the investigation? I didn't see anything from a quick Google search. I have this car seat. I also have the Graco turn2me. FWIW, the build quality of the Graco is way better and the turn mechanism is smoother. The Graco can't turn when in forward facing position though. So while the convenience of the 360 turn of the Evenflo is really nice, I would pick the Graco any day.

This is because something bad is going to come soon on investigation and hence they are trying to get rid of inventory as much as possible.

This seat has never been sold at this price on any deal so that should be a signal. Very possible that this will be recalled.

I own this, while it's a steal at this price as a parent I can't suggest you buy this while it's under investigation.

I have these seats and they work great. I am looking forward to the investigation results, but could see where the seats were not rotated back all the way and locked again (there is a visual indicator, but can see where folks get lax at checking it). We often leave the the seat in the unlocked 90 degree loading position when not in use (probably a bad habit as I could see this coming out in an accident.) It very well could be a bad design too, but I can at least see a few user driven items contributing to issues

Crash test result of evenflo gold revolve360 is not great. These seats are similar and I don't feel safe getting this for my kid.
