Think it's referring to the T-Mobile deal

Pixels got expensive.

I remember getting my Pixel 7 Pro for under $450 after the $525 trade in credit at Best Buy for iPhone 11, which Walmart happened to have for $200. That deal looked like

$750 - $525 credit = $225
$225 + $200 cost of iPhone 11 = $425 total + taxes.

And yeah. 128GB on a $1000+ phone in 2024 is ludicrous.

It was black Friday. Pixel 9 350 off, then 450 off over 24 mouth. I'm a Fi user anyways so adding a line for 10 bucks to get a free pixel 9 ain't half bad

Got the "same" deal two years ago. It was for the Pixel 7 Pro. It was $600 back then and the phone also came with 128gb.

Today I wouldn't do it even for free. Mint Mobile has the absolute ass of a service. The internet connection was pretty much non-existent because you were always being deprioritized on the network.

Nothing's changed since. You'll still be treated as a second-class citizen on the already crappy T-mobile network. The phone is definitely not worth its MSRP, so it's only a "deal" on paper.

Just a word of warning, YMMV of course.

I am hard of hearing but my Pixel 7 (and Pixel 5 and Pixel 3XL and every other phone before) was adequate with the speaker turned up to max volume. Just got a new Pixel 9 Pro XL and I think I'll have to return it. The phone is practically unusable for me. This is definitely a design bug.

What's everyone need so much storage that 128 is so bad? I get a hesitancy to trust the cloud or limited/costly data access while traveling, but that's still not photo backup. Lose the phone and everything is gone then? I can understand offline media and other things you want to bring, but the photo/video angle seems weak.

I know there are some strong debates around what constitutes redundancy/backup, etc so I don't mean to start that here but adding more GBs and relying on that is a quick way to a single point of failure.

Not everyone likes putting their stuff in the cloud. I would rather have a micro SD but that's not much of an option anymore thanks to Apple.
Apple is an evil company, I can not understand why other manufacturers would stoop so low to copy all the bastard moves that a company like Apple does! What the engineers are like "hey, Apple eliminated the headphone jack, let's copy that". "Hey Apple doesn't have a memory card slot and consumers would never want to add an SD card right?" F Apple!

You must have missed the Best Buy deals when the 9 series was released.

Guess I wasn't looking. Once you go S24 Ultra, you don't go back.

Sounds like you've never had a cloud subscription before 🤭

Why though? Are there ~100GB worth of apps and media that you need to be on your phone at all times (assuming OS is like 30GB)? Almost everyone I see at the airport brings a laptop and even if you don't, you can offload files to a USB flash drive.

It's a pointless inconvenience. It'd be like putting a 6 gallon gas tank on a car as standard and telling customers you don't need any more with gas stations so prevalent, but if you want 8, 12 or 16 gallons it costs $100's per tier.

An SD expansion slot costs practically nothing, but since Apple created the market of charging a king's ransom for something very cheap, every OEM is now looking to cash in too.

I got the pixel 7 pro last Xmas with 1 year of service as a new customer for $250 with 20gb monthly and am very happy with it 😁

Agreed that that Apple and their sheep made it happen. However it's easy to work around. The point is to make people who don't do file management pay more for storage. If a consumer is lazy then they pay more for the laziness. I guess that has been Apple's way of doing things all along and other companies are following. If you're a passive consumer, and don't care about having control over your own devices, you'll probably be fine with paying more for less so you buy an Apple Big Grin
