It has been this price for a while now. Waiting for a deal for a free SIM card.

I've been using TextNow as my backup line for a couple of years now. It is a useful service, considering that one doesn't have to pay for it every month.

That being said, this isn't really a deal in an SD sense, because it is available year round. In the past TextNow would temporarily drop the price of the SIM cards to $1 or $2. Maybe it'll happen again someday.

I wouldn't count much on that data allotment though, because it is quite limited in various ways (low quota, specific apps, slow speeds). There are better data options out there if that's what you're after.

If you would like to learn more about this service, I suggest reading through the comments in earlier TextNow threads. There is a wealth of information in there about how to keep your number without having to pay, and make ads less intrusive.

Thanks for bringing it to everyone's attention again OP.

Their captcha is pathetic! Doesn't work most of the times, it would try to keep refreshing back to the screen even after multiple tries.

i thought i was the only one and that textnow knew i was a robot. when that happens, i just give up and try again later. i think their subscription for captcha is the free version and they didn't want to shell out for the premium version

I ordered a sim card last year. It came with 250MB monthly data. However, after a few months, my number expired and I lost both the sim and the data. Not to mention that you cannot use your usual phone and messaging app for call and text. You need to use text now app for that. Also, last time I tried, they do not support esim.
Overall, in my opinion, it's not worth the hassle.

I believe within a reasonable time, you can reactivate the sim card after a number has expired. (No charge, new number.) As to whether or not it's worth the hassle.... probably depends on one's situation, since the market isn't exactly flooded with free calling plans, especially over a cellular connection.

Don't you need Wi-Fi or cell data if you don't have a TextNow SIM card?

FYI as it might come as an accident to some in the future: it's against TextNow's ToS to use a VPN, and your account will be closed, so make sure you don't accidentally have one on! I'm not sure if you could have it on while not using the app since it might be running in the background. Just a heads up so you don't lose convos/numbers.

I did this a couple of years ago and then out of nowhere they started charging my credit card $5 a month. Don't trust them anymore.
