" ... we're giving away a select number to California residents who meet specific eligibility criteria." Obvious questions:
1. How many are they giving away?
2. What are the eligibility criteria? They're asking for make, model, zip code and (i) whether you own your home and (ii) "Is your home a single family home with an enclosed garage?"
Also: They say this is funded by grant from the state. Presumably the grant spells out criteria, etc?

Make sure the grant from the state isn't a "one grant benefit per resident/household" - which means you use your opportunity up with this mediocre looking charger and then another vendor comes out with an alternative and you've already used your chip for this instead.
ALSO keep in mind all new EVs are moving to the Tesla NACS plug from 2025/26.

Here's the update they FINALLY sent out:
Hi friends, checking in on the status of your charger again!
First off, WOW! We're absolutely thrilled by the overwhelming interest in this program!
In the next few weeks, keep an eye on your inbox. We'll be reaching out to a several of you to gather some additional information, including your full address, utility provider, and the model year of your Electric Vehicle.
Why do we need this info?
As part of the California Energy Commission (CEC) program, we're required to ensure that all participants meet specific grant criteria. We really, really need your prompt and complete response, as it will help us fast-track installations for those that qualify!
The first round includes 120 chargers, but don't worry if you're not selected this time. The second round is massive—12,000 chargers—starting in late 2025. So, your chances of being included at some point are excellent!
Thank you again for your support and patience. Enjoy your holiday, and we'll be in touch again soon!
(Interesting they're asking the SAME information that they already asked... (Address, Electric Provider, Auto Owned...)
Got an email saying "Congratulations! You made it to step 2 to secure your free in-home charger". I filled up to confirm what I filled up before and submit it.
Does anybody else get the email?

"This is the grant they presumably got funding through.

So looks like the idea is to give out chargers that they are able to cut off when the grid is overloaded."
