Every time I'm looking to buy a dock, a monitor, a printer, any peripheral, there is a big spike of 1-star reviews for otherwise 5-star products starting with: "What a piece of junk. It doesn't work with my 2035 MacBook Pro Max Ultra Supra. I'm never buying an Anker product ever again."

Direct blame where blame is due! Ask Apple to make their products compatible with industry standards like everybody else does. If you chose Apple products (I buy them, too because I have to) understand that they are INTENTIONALLY engineered to be incompatible with other products. They want you to buy Apple everything. If you don't, "it just won't work". If it weren't for the EU, iPhones would still have a super slow, far inferior USB 2.0 "Lighting" port from our Lord's glorious year of 2000...

This is an old model. Some of the specs are somewhat outdated by now: PD charging via USB-C at 18W max, and via USB-A at 7.5W max, Ethernet at 1Gbps are considered slow in 2024. Many of these old Thunderbolt 3 docks from five-eight years ago are on sale at deep discounts now. (I saw one for $35, albeit with less ports than this.) Prices on these will go to $50 very soon as they clear them out. They may still be adequate for most people. (for 99.9% of people your ISP will be the bottleneck, not the 1Gbps Ethernet port this thing has.) They are perfectly capable of driving two external 4K screens at 60Hz each. (As long as you're not on Mac. Apple makes an effort to intentionally block that ability, in software, on 95% of their computers.)

I personally prefer bus-powered travel USB-C hubs that I can bring with me. They are 100-250g only and have some specs (not all!) that outshine these old docks. Plus they often have a more modern port selection. And they only cost $15-50. Since they are bus-powered, there is no 1-lb power brick either. You can just use your universal PD charger to pass-through charge your laptop with them. The better ones can also drive dual external 4K screens at either 30Hz or 60Hz. To me they are better value. I bought one in the summer for c. $15 on sale. It only weighs 111g/4oz!
