What is it that do you think we would enjoy? Do tell.
You think that spending a 1k on a watch would make us enjoy it more than spending 300? Let's not kid ourselves. What exactly do you think spending a 1k watch would do? More status? This Longines would not buy you that. More accuracy? Maybe, but do you think 3 sec a day is worth 700 in price? So please tell me your logic in your statement and please be realistic and not some idealistic do what you want with your money.
I really dispute this. As someone who has owned literally hundreds of watches from brands from $10 to $5k I think generally you get what you pay for at all levels. I currently owned and have owned several other Longines, and I can say for example that I enjoy my Longines Legend Diver more than the Tudor Black Bay I ended up selling, as just one example. Personally, I think Longines is one of the best brands if you are looking to go one notch up in quality from the "entry-level" Swiss brands like Tissot, Hamilton, Certina, etc. as well as the many AliExpress brands like San Martin.

If you've held a Longines in the hand, the quality is definitely better for the price than most brands you'd find in the under $1k range. They also have a long and dignified history, and are very highly respected brand in many parts of the world (such as Asia and the Middle East for example)

Again I have nothing against Longines. But like you said, under 1k. This deal is not under 1k and it's gray market. Jomashop deals on SD shouldn't even get posted, they priced like this every other week.

I have been at this game long enough to offer this advice. Either go big or go small. If you want to impress, go with a big name like Rolex, or even Tudor, Omega, etc. If you don't want to spend over 2k, then go small, like less then 300. You are kidding yourself if you want to spend anything in between. especially in the 800 to 1800 range.
I concur… ask me how I know (Tag Heuer) when it comes to the price and then retained value, you get it up the dark side without any lubricant.

You really don't think there are any good watches between $300-$2k?

People just like to parrot nonsense they see on the internet (on social media or otherwise).

It's honestly kind of sad since they rarely ever post actually evidence defending these hot takes.

I think everyone needs to calm down and understand what SuperSlickz is saying. He's bought and owned many, and in the $1k to $4k range … there is really not much of a difference in movement or fit and finish. Not so say some brands are better than other but most are using the same movement. Also, there is either no retained value or brand recognition (yes, it I'd important but not for ego or flash). If you spend $4k and in 2 years the watch is worth $1K and it costs $400 to service in the 5th year… it's not slick.

Now if you did get upper echelon (for what normal folks consider) like Rolex, Cartier, Omega - they do retain their value and thus are better recognized so you literally just haven't money tied up in a watch, but not a bath loss like if you bought most brands. Then service costs are in line with the retained value of the watch.

At least, this is how I understand it and where he is coming from.

Buy what you love, but also don't expect to get anything out of it Unless it is Higher end.

I don't think this is exactly right as what he was saying is that there's no difference for $300-$2k in watches but I think there's a noticeable gap between "affordable" like Tissot, Hamilton, value AliExpress brands like San Martin and many of the microbrands, and the next tier around and over 1k. This is brands like Oris, Ball, and yes Longjnes. The quality of these brands is definitely noticeable around $1k and probably up to at least $2k. After that you start to hit another tier with Omega, Tudor, and Tag.

Personally, IMHO, some of the best bang/buck is in this range. My Longines Legend Diver is one of my favorites and I've previously owned 3-hand and chrono hydroconquests and found them very quality watches for the price. I didn't think my black bay was worth nearly double the price I paid for example, but I still like Tudor as a brand too.

Of course to many of my friends a $500 Tissot is a crazy expensive purchase, much less a $5k Omega, so a good deal is a relative thing.

But in the crazy watch world, I think Longines is one of the best positioned brands in their niche - with 1k to $1500 being a sweet spot (on discount of course)

Agreed. I have a few pieces that are north of 9-10K. With that little bit of worthless info out of the way, may DD at the moment is my tried and true Bulova Lunar Pilot. I love this watch more than anything in my collection!! And you can find it on Amazon occasionally in the 350 range.

What do you think of this Mido watch? At 43 mm dia, it's big, but I have a big wrist.
