On one hand this GPU+CPU is much better balanced than the Legion 5i with the i9 and 4060 for the same price. On the other hand it's a 2 yr old CPU. Decisions....

This has a nicer screen than the Legion 5i. The Acer has a 500+ nits screen. Problem is that it's heavy at 5.7 lbs and the fans can get loud if it really ramps up hard. The per key RGB keyboard makes it faster than the Legion though. ;-)
Legion's benefit is that it's a Lenovo Legion and the build quality is simply likely to be better and I would expect the cooling to be better too. Plus the Costco model has an additional 16GB of RAM (32GB total).
I'm a sucker for a good screen though and I have an Acer 4050 with a similar screen and it's great. Really nice.
Ultimately, I agree that the processor is not nearly as important as the GPU. For that reason alone I give the nod to the Acer, but the Legion 5i is a seriously nice device.

B&H has a very similar Legion 5 with a better screen for $20 more (but with only 1 yr warranty): https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/pr...l/overview
Re: build quality, I am buying this to replace another Acer Predator that developed a loose DC socket after 18 months of use. Fortunately I had bought that one from Acer on ebay too, with the 2 yr Allstate warranty, and they junked the whole thing over the loose socket and paid me the original purchase price.

My biggest gripe with acer laptop is you cannot undervolt cpu so you cant do anything to mitigate the scorching intel chips. It is especially bad combined with loud mediocre fans that come with their laptops

Why can't this be undervolted?

Because they didn't bother to unlock it.
