This is not a gaming laptop? Does MSI make consumer laptops now?

They do make certain workstation type laptops. Their higher end stuff is quite solid. Their low end machines get a lot of criticism, for the right reasons, but their high end machines are quite good.

I'm underwhelmed by the specs on this laptop at this price point. You seem to be paying a premium for the UHD OLED screen and 32GB RAM.

I've seen other laptops with this CPU/iGPU combo with FHD screens and 16GB ram for $599 at Microcenter (HP) and I'd target $700-$750 for a laptop with these specs.

Maybe the MSI has incredible build quality and screen which might justify the $1000 price tag for some, but for many people a $600-$750 laptop based on the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H laptop will work very well even if it has less RAM and a lower resolution screen.

This is a combination of light-weight (3.3lb), OLED, and powerful processor. Without the first two, it will be about $700 for a 16GB system or less than $800 for a 32GB system for a good deal. If you think $200-$300 extra dollars are justified for a very light-weight OLED laptop, it's your call.

I don't have this laptop but I have one with the same processor and 16GB RAM and tested its gaming capability. Again, whether it is a gaming laptop is your own call based on the games you play. A 1050Ti max-q is a gaming discrete video card so is a 4090 whatever.

Here are my tests. FYI, I have a 1920*1200 screen so consider this you may not be able to get the same outcome if you run at 3840*2400. But if you use 1920*1200 resolution, the following should be quite close to what you will get.

I gave the Ultra 7 155H CPU + iGPU a chance at playing some games since Intel is marketing the iGPU as good for some games. It actually is comparable to a discrete video card NVIDIA 1050 Ti max-q mobile, based on performance test results and what I felt playing some games. I was able to play some games:

MineCraft with default 40 chunks. This is a game almost any PC can play, some with more chunks (see further) than others. Having 40 chunks is very good game play. I had a world where I raised cows and chickens and sheep and turning to watch them on an older gaming desktop (1060 3GB) that slowed down the game play due to having to render all those moving animals, not this machine.

Deliver us Mars (3D exploration and puzzle solving that involves some keyboard+mouse skills) with 1280*960 windowed resolution and low setting. quite playable but not as detailed compared with playing on an RX 6650 XT on a desktop with epic settings and 1440p. This is a 2023 game that requires discrete video cards. Nice model for hair strands but I didn't attempt it on the laptop. Read the requirements at the bottom:

Eve online (3D space game in which you rotate pan zoom your view a lot) with 1200p and high/custom settings. Decent even though it takes a moment to load graphics when you jump into a star gate which doesn't affect your game play. You can see the requirement for this game is about 1050 ti max-q mobile level as well:

Some of these games are free to play so there is NO reason not trying some of these games and see for yourself how the processor handles games. Admittedly my Dell is bigger in size so more vents and larger fans are assumed. It also comes with a 100W USB-C charger, which is nice.

I didn't try any 2D games assuming they don't require much and also tried strategy game homeworld desert, which plays fine.
