"The Hisense U8/U8K and TCL QM8/QM851G QLED are evenly matched, with only small differences. The TCL is a bit brighter in HDR and SDR, but the Hisense is more accurate in HDR and SDR. The TCL has slightly better image processing. Gamers might prefer the TCL, which has a noticeably faster response time than the Hisense. Ultimately, the Hisense is the better choice if you care about image accuracy. Otherwise, the TCL offers a slightly brighter image."
100 inch is bigger than 98 inch by about size of 20 inch screen.
Both are great TVs for the price. But for 2600$ U8K was a better deal IMO

On the brightness side, these TVs destroy OLED when it comes to an HDR experience. Especially OLEDs released before the current models. Even the current models that have greatly increased brightness can't touch these TV's from TCL and Hisense.
Can you demo a scenario where they look like crap in comparison? For sure. Blank star fields and fireworks are going to be your nemesis with these sets but how often are you actually watching those scenes?
I also know there are some mixed opinions about this here but I added Govee backlights and it just makes the immersion experience even greater imo.
Wrt Hisense vs this, the 100" may not seem like much but that's 2" diagonal. Makes for a good bit of screen real estate. This model does seem to have more dimming zones and gets brighter though. So a bit of a toss up.
Regardless of what you pick, highly recommend getting a warranty. Also the TCL has a very wide vesa pattern. Mount has to hit 3 studs vs 2 like the Hisense. It's not your standard size so make sure you check the mounts vesa support before buying.
As I mentioned in another thread, lay down some cardboard boxes in your foyer for delivery, especially if you have hard wood floors. Mine came on a pallet, and I guess the pallet had some nails sticking out of the bottom. When the delivery guys slid it in, it scratched the floors. Not their fault, couldnt see the nails until it was too late.

2x better is very subjective. Many would be happy with q6.
Q8 have significantly better specifications.
A 10% widow will measure 6-8x higher for HDR.
One is more of an entry level while the other is the flagship.
The value for money diminishes as you go to higher end models. So 2x money will never fetch 2x value.
But this is probably a smoking hot deal if you want to buy comparable TVs.
Only other TV that is better and closer in price would be the Hisense UX. Samsung is around 10k, OLED is 17k etc. x90L is not in the same league and is inferior except may be for processing capabilities.

Of course it does. That has nothing to do with OLED vs LCD. That's like when I went from a 13" CRT in my bedroom as a teenager to a 27". I complained that the picture looked blurrier. Because it was the exact same resolution stretched out over a much larger canvas.
I hope I will not regret my choice but Amazon 3rd party delivery not getting the tv into the house plus finding another company for installation was just too much too coordinate.
Looking at all the specs they are almost same quality TVs but TCL is a 2024 model with a bit brighter display.
Bestbuy delivery and installation will be a peace of mind incase anything turns unexpected with the tv. Worth $400 extra for this amazing TV!
A day before this price drop I bought from best buy for $4k with free install. Price adjusted it to $3k and even happier now.
Personally I'd take it over a 100 U8k at $2600. That extra brightness really hits for me. At $4k I would've ordered the 98" Hisense 98ux at the black Friday $4500 if it ever got in stock. That's the more comparable model. Though at $3k I think the QM8 can't be beat.
Though to be clear IMHO all these tvs are great choices for their own reasons. Make your pick and just enjoy them.

Other than harder to find, somewhat, 600x600 vesa on this TCL anything else quirky on install?

Delusional.
Real life:
86" Sammy beats OLED
120" 4k Shift projector dedicated theater beats both.
100"(98") Sammy will replace dedicated theater room and/or any of the above.
