I own this. The top of this is pretty small and the metal is thin. I don't think you could use it as a workbench.

I think I have this one, it's fine for a small, cheaper rolling box set.. This is pre-inflation pricing which is nice to see. I'll probably grab another set.

Is this a good deal? I just want to organize my loose tools and use the top of the base unit to work on stuff since I don't have a dedicated workbench….

The metal on this is about as thick as a coke can. But $100 is a great price if you can find it. Just know this is not meant to be overloaded or roughed up.

Thumbs up

So if I just want to put basic home tools away, this would be fine? Wrenches, hammers, nails, screws, caulk, etc.

Bought one of these for $99 in 2016 from sears(i think). Ive overloaded the drawers and packed the top with a pile of tools, lid open. If the construction is the same(doubt it) its decent for a small set of tools. One step above a carrying tool box. I outgrew it quickly.

I had a similar one from Sears long time ago. It didn't have ball bearings back then. This newer CRAFTSMAN 1000 Series is made of 20-ga steel which is better than non-heavy duty Kobalt's 22-ga Smilie
I'd pick one up as a dedicated power tool storage if there's one in-stock nearby.

Does the top box come off separate as a tool box?

There's three by me was thinking about getting one tomorrow.

I realize it's only $100 but 30 lbs per drawer feels like something from Ikea. Tread lightly team.

Any suggestions to look around for used locally at a similar price? Something ubiquitous maybe? Ideally filled with tools 😂

It's about 4x thicker than that, and so you are misinforming people in that regard. I agree with the rest. I have it and like it as a hobbyist tool chest, but if I were a pro I'd wish I had something that was 20% better in a few ways. At $99 this is a good deal.
