Swimming shirts fit tight, these don't. But they can serve the same purpose as you mention. I use them for hot days when I'm hiking and/or when I'm outside for several days. They block the sun without the need for sunscreen and also are very easy to wash and dry while camping or in a hotel sink.

Decent shirts, I have the v neck short sleeves. They're thin and polyester feeling, certainly not top quality, however they're perfect gym shirts. My set of 6 is going on year 3 just fine.
