I went to Costco two days ago and added lines for my parents, who were going to port in. Now I've learned that they were on tmobile all along, so their ports are not actually ports and I have to cancel those new lines (which are each netting me $175 Costco GCs and about $400 off a new phone each).
I figure I can at least keep 1 by canceling my own line and taking my phone to one of the new numbers (I use a GV number so I don't care what my TMo number is). Then maybe I'll have one of my parents (the new users) port over to some MVNO before for a few months and then port in after 3 months, so I'll have only canceled one line.
For example, I personally ported out my paid lines and ported them back on free lines to drop my plan cost. I almost messed up my last port out / port in because my port out line was a free line. If the agent hadn't caught it and argued with me about it being a free line, I would have lost that free line for good.
It's been for so long that I see promotions for my simple choice plan!

So to minimize the trade-in risk, I decided to get an S9 on ebay for $100. If it works as the OP says, it gets $830 credits. So if I get a 16 Pro base for 999, then I will get it for 999+tax-830+100= 170 up front (7% tax) and $7/mo + addition line ($10/mo) = ~ $20 a month for 24 months = $650 all in for 16 Pro + 1 line
This promo have this term "Bill credits end if you pay off device early."
Assuming 4 phones
Go5GNext plan is $225 incl tax/fees per month for 4 lines, so $56.25/month/device, but after $830 trade in over 24 months, comes to $56.25-$34.58 = $21.67/month
Cost is $21.67/month x 24 months = $520 total paid for each iphone
But... Also need to pay $100 ish for each trade in device, and then tax on up front cost ~$50-$70ish.
But... If you do the deal through Costco you'll get $250 visa prepaid card and also $200 costco card per device
Total per device = $520+$100+$50 -$450 = $240
So you're effectively paying $240 ish per iphone, plus you also get 2 years of free T-Mobile service included....
