stronger, less chance of rounding a bolt/nut.

6 points fit tighter which makes them less likely to strip a bolt or nut. You can also apply more torque without breaking a socket because the wall of the socket will be a little thicker.

Agreed this is the lowest recorded price for this set on Amazon, but most people would be better served by 6pt.

You linked the 232 pc set that is completely different. It it almost always on sale for ~$199.
It has ratcheting wrenches and comfort grip ratchets but skips all the 1/2" drive stuff which is the majority of the value of other sets like the 243pc set.

The all 6 pt 243pc (80966) set is much more desirable so they don't really put it on sale much. Recent sale was $275 and they flew off the shelf and have been OOS on Amazon.

I understand all of this but in that case why do manufacturers bother making 12 point then? Why not just forget about 12 points and make 6 points? When does it make more sense to use a 12 point over a 6 point?

They're easier to fit on bolts or nuts and are fine for low torque applications.

The newer fine tooth ratchets have kinda made 12pts obsolete compared to what they used to be also.

This is more expensive than many of the mechanic's sets we see around here but it also seems a lot less compromised. Basically it has a rather complete set of socks in both 1/4 and 3/8ths and in both shallow and deep sockets. It looks like the wrench selection is complete enough that you aren't going to have to buy a new set of wrenches to fill in all the skips. The only thing I can't be certain about is what the total range is for each socket type (I don't see a complete tool list). It also seems like they might have boosted the count by including things like 3/8th drive sockets for fasteners under 10mm. If you are dealing with a 6mm fastener are you really going to need a 3/8 ratchet? Still, that issue aside it looks like a good tool set if a bit more expensive than most examples.

To say this looks incredibly overpriced would be a vast overstatement. DON'T PURCHASE THIS SET.

Highly regarded youtube channels (like AvE and TTC) have shown that 12-point is more than adequate, being able to apply enough torque to break a bolt before stripping the head, unless you are dealing with already damaged nuts and bolts or have cheap poor fitting tools. In those cases, 6-point will have a better chance of not further damaging the fastener.

12-point can be preferrable in allowing quicker seating and repositioning of the tool. When using a breaker bar in tighter spaces, the 60° swing angle of 6-point sockets sometimes doesn't allow enough flexibility to get the job done.

12 point will more likely strip but they have its uses
