Yes, in every way. Different technology, different purpose. This will be broadband versus the iMessage narrowband

Yes, to verify you have a valid T-Mo service.... what's the issue?

TMO partnering with Starlink will be the gamechanger for the industry
Verizon and AT&T are working with ASTS currently as well

In less than (2) yrs timeframe....dead zones and post-storm disaster outages will be a thing of the past

This is most impressive for TMO, in my opinion. What this company has become in less than a decade should be studied as a business case at Harvard Business School. For some perspective, this is T-Mobile's Coverage Map from 2015

Some of us already use and have Starlink. Why pay more with T-Mobile? Not frugal, at all.
This deal is for those who already have T-Mobile as they would get Starlink connectivity for free. Do you keep your Starlink dish in your pocket everywhere you go? With this you can (within the US). It's a different use-case than your home internet.

I wouldnt be surprised this would be 'free' for go5g next. Everyone else will be SOL and a way for tmobile to force upgrade grandfathered plans.

Have you ever subscribed to or even used Starlink? We don't carry a dish around with us. Plus, all T-Mobile is getting is texting access. Maybe, eventually talk and data coverage. Don't think Elon Musk is gonna allow more without a price to be paid. It costs him money to maintain and deploy all of the satellites 🛰️ in the network. So, if you think you're really gonna get free Starlink, keep dreaming folks. Not gonna happen. 🙅🏼 ♂️ 🤣Watch T-Mobile force rate increases and plan upgrades. Nothing is ever really free folks.

I have starlink at my vacation ranch because it's in the middle of nowhere. Obviously I don't carry it around. T-Mobile is going to get voice and data as well. Sure there's a chance there will be a fee for it but you're acting like Starlink service is in some way comparable to this T-Mobile offering. It's not (unless you carry your Starlink dish around in your pocket). No one cares that you have Starlink... it has nothing to do with this deal.

Beta is free. They haven't announced pricing for post-launch.
911 service will be free on all devices, even inactive. (Per Elon).

Some higher tier plans may (cough will) include some quota of access. (Mentioned in some SEC filings - too busy to dig up).

Thanks! I have terrible cell service in our neighborhood. We're constantly losing power which means losing internet and no cell service, either. Texting (and ultimately voice and data) over satellite would be amazing, especially during power outages!
There's a few companies pushing for what you need. The next few years have some incredible changes coming. Notably ast spacemobile has proven calls to sat. The direct competitor to starlink.

There's no equipment here. Your phone connects directly to the Starlink satellite.

Awesome, really happy to have other options than AT&T and Comcast, plus getting around rampant political censorship is a nice bonus.
I'm curious, how did ATT censor you politically?

Some of us already have Starlink and use it regularly due to T-Mobile as well as Verizon and AT&T's horrible rural coverage. Works sufficiently for phone and gaming on a PS5 as well. Why pay more with T-Mobile? Nothing is free with them. Always a catch. Not for frugal minded folks, at all. Also, this service is Starlink's Direct to Cell LTE technology offering. Nothing else.

This is merely a beta test of something that was discussed almost two years ago by T-Mobile. There is no pay more for this at this time. I am pretty sure in an emergency situation there would be no additional cost. Not everyone lives in a rural area, but there will be situations where this can be needed.

Yeah not so fast..

This is indeed impressive. However, their shady partnership with store fronts that offer deals that are inaccurate combined with things like undervaluing trades, constant changing programs, multiple hacks divulging user data...

They may be bleeding edge. But business practice wise, ..just another MNO...
