Just FYI.

Corning originally owned the trademark for both PYREX and pyrex, but later licensed the use of the logos to other companies.
Composition
Corning originally made all Pyrex products with borosilicate glass, but the new owner switched to soda-lime glass to make the cookware more affordable.
Lab tools
Corning continues to make lab tools with borosilicate glass and label them PYREX.
Safety
Neither PYREX nor pyrex is 100% resistant to thermal shock, but PYREX is safer because it's less likely to break.

I believe this is the cheaper stuff which is licensed out to other companies. Please adjust your expectations accordingly.

Anyone still use plastic? I can't stand glass. Very heavy and delicate vs plastic.

Hasn't it been 3 or 4 decades since borosilicate Pyrex has been sold regularly in the US?

The whole point of glass is to get away from plastic.

Well yes but I was curious if people are still using the plastic. For 100 years plastic was the goat and now glass has taken storm lol

I think it was 1998 when Pyrex exited the cookware market and started licensing out the brand.
All caps PYREX denotes it was manufactured by Pyrex. The mixed case lettering denotes that it was licensed.

A lot of people are not aware of this fact and assume quality due to the Pyrex brand.

There are still a lot of high quality borosilicate products available made by and branded by other companies but you can no longer assume the quality of Pyrex branded products.

My Pyrex lids are still perfect after 5+ years of use. They always go in the dishwasher but never the microwave. Wonder if that's the difference
Over the years I have had lots of these pyrex lids from different sets and my theory is that they have used different plastics and/or manufacturing at different times and so some lids are just better than others.

My first sets from around 2000 had lids that lasted a very long time, then there was a set where all the lids all cracked within a year, and the most recent sets have been better. I treated all the lids the same, dishwasher and sometimes microwave.

I'm never going back to plastics. I don't need plastics and petrochemicals in my body from Tupperware containers, especially from exposure to high heat or cold

It's best to hand wash and never microwave for lid longevity
