Expensive, yes, but definitely a deal at this price, and not insane. This monitor, like Apple's two displays, is focused on a lesser-known but very important display attribute - much higher pixel density, typically measured in pixels-per-inch or PPI. Fo many productivity (I.e., non-gamer) users, the increased pixel density (marketed by Apple as the "retina" effect) is much more obvious of an improvement and blows away other display attributes. This Dell is still a bit of a unicorn, as it provides both a higher (tho not retina-high) PPI + 120Hz frequency.

Didn't the previous gen have the same PPI of 140? I know the panel was limited to 60hz

This is a fair price for this monitor, not a screaming deal though. These monitors are amazing for productivity. I have a 60hz Lenovo version of this and it is well worth it.

there are only a handful of monitors that has this aspect ratio (40" 5k)
if office task and or productivity is all you need
look into hp z40c g3 on eBay
ips, 60hz, thunderbolt 3 kvm, it even has a built-in webcam
I was able to scoop one the other day for $550 before tax
this dell monitor has some admirable specs, but i'm not sure if it's worth 3x the cost

I am in the market for this holiday season,
This dell is absolutely beautiful,
40in 21:9 5k2k 120hz but it is $1500 before tax
Then we have the Lenovo one 75hz for $1099
Then the hp one refurbished for $620
Then the deco gear for $650 new
Or I can buy 2 benq rd280u or rd32 4k at $1200
I first bought a 34 21;9 wqud(1440p) to replace my 27 4k, which is a big mistake
My job requires both extensive work(coding, reading) but also testing on a larger CAD design map and other tools via company vpn secured terminal (one terminal window for CAD checking and other tools open in the side) so that a larger screen will be ideal.
Otherwise, I will just buy 2 of the benq dr280u for coding and reading
So that I think the best for my needs is the 40in 21:9 5k2k
Either the Lenovo new or the HP refurbished.
I can afford the price at $1500 but it is still a big spend, could save up for updating other gears.
Please help me to clear my mind, if you were in my shoes, which one do you suggest to get.

I do currently have a MacBook, but am considering getting a windows machine next year. since the cycle for the window is 3 years and the MacBook is 4 years from my company.

It is my WFH use.

The future looks bright for WUHD as LG is coming out with quite a few 5120 x 2160 OLED monitors in 2025 at 34", 39", and 45": https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/ole...p-for-2025
