FYI, 5.7 pounds carry weight. Tent and poles only comes to 4.3 lbs.

Agree that's a deal breaker. A good chunk of that excessive weight is due to the use of fiberglass as a pole material. Aluminum is much lighter. Fiberglass isn't unexpected at this rock bottom price point, and the freestanding, full coverage rainfly design is sound. But almost 5 and 1/2 lbs is simply too much for a solo tent. If you're willing to carry that kind of weight by yourself, might as well hold out for a budget 2 person tent, many of which are about the same weight and occassionally show up on Slickdeals in the $40 - $60 range. At least that way you'd enjoy the extra room for you and your gear.

Maybe this tent would make sense for solo motorcycle camping where packed size is an important consideration but weight is slightly less of an issue than if you were carrying it on your back.

Better to pay more and get a nice hammock with substantially less weight.

Can you point to a place to buy the aluminum poles? I got a 2 person tent from REI with aluminum poles and it works great. I wanna replace the fiberglass poles from other tents

Tent designs are so bad. I camp twice a month and these just don't work. It's funny because the really cheap tents do a better job for me and they are way lighter. The rain flys suck

When it's hot I need rain fly off but if it starts to rain I need to wake up and put it on and let 1000 mosquitos in my tent? Idk just bad design. Some Cheap tents have zippers for windows on the inside which works awesome

The first place to try is the tent manufacturer, although if it's an off brand I doubt they'd be able to help you. Most offbrand tents are imported from countries like China and their supply distribution model doesn't make offering upgraded aluminum poles particularly profitable.

Your next alternative would be companies that specialize in custom aluminum tent poles. I did a quick google search and came across GetTent, OutdoorXL and Tent Pole Technologies, I'm sure there are others. However, I suspect that the prices they charge probably exceed the cost of your tent unless it's a high quality name brand (in which case, it probably wouldn't have come with fiberglass poles in the first place).

The final alternative I can think of is to buy premade aluminum replacement poles on Amazon or EBay. Measure the total length of your existing poles and see if you can find an exact match. I imagine even an inch or two difference in length will be a problem.

If you can't find an exact match, it is certainly possible to cut down the outermost aluminum segment of a slightly longer replacement pole. I've successfully replaced worn shock cord on aluminium poles and it involves loosening the ferrule at one end or the other (heat, WD-40 and/or vicegrip pliers should get the job done). The only difference would be you'll have to then carefully trim that outmost pole segment with a hacksaw so the overall length precisely matches that of the original fiberglass pole.

HTH.

TLDR;
This is a perfectly serviceable tent for a beginner backpacker.

As someone who led meetup backpacking groups the guy/gal who shows up with the latest and greatest z-lite / goss gear tent, black diamond poles, bragging about their 11lb 3oz pack weight is generally the person who has to stop the most and has a sore back lol. Yes you can get utralight sleeping on the ground using your hiking poles for tent poles and having the latest and greatest gear, but do you really need that? It's like $4000 gold clubs thinking it will make you a better golfer. People hiked the entire PCT/AT with 60lb external frame packs way not so long ago, you can make it one or two nights with a 35lb one lol Stick Out Tongue

Much like golf you are better off practicing backpacking, put 10lbs of water bottles wrapped in towels and walk 3 miles at a greenway work your way up to 40lbs and I can guarantee your little stabilizing back muscles will build up fast and you'll have no issues on a trail within reason. I have several expensive tents but often grab my cheapo ozark trail 1.5 person if i'm taking the pooch, and if embers from the fire melt the rainfly a little or something odd happens then I am not out more than $25 lol Stick Out Tongue

Edit: here is the tent I have from walmart, it's a little better deal imho floor space is a bit bigger and it's even a tad lighter and cheaper.
