I got the $5 premier download version (I recommend it, in past the online one did not download all my tax info from Fidelity, very dangerous)... anyway this premier version for $5, can anyone confirm that you still have to pay to State e-file? (only the federal e-file is free). Just want to confirm if my premier install is messed up or if thats the way its supposed to be.

Yes, still have pay to e-file state. This Fidelity deal just gives you a regular TT Premier desktop license and you always have to pay to e-file the state with that software. You may be able to reenter the numbers on your state's website. And of course, you can always print and mail it.

Thank you, I'd rather e-file just to avoid risk of any problem.

One other question... I will file for myself but I also want to file for my mom, in that case, will the second federal e-file (for her) be free?

Nope. It's $25 per state e-file. If your mom lives in another state, you have to pay for the state software too ($40).

Thanks I mean... I just filed for myself and it cost the $25 + tax, but now I have to file for my mom, will TurboTax premier download force me to pay a federal e-filing fee for her in addition to the state e-filing fee? I looked at my receipts and they all just say

"TURBOTAX DESKTOP PREMIER TAX YEAR 2024
WIN DOWNLOAD WITH STATE
Quantity: 1 $5.00"

The download includes 5 free federal e-files, so just the state e-file fee is needed. Or again, you can go online to your state dept of revenue possibly or print and mail it.

Or FreeTaxUSA, OLT, or Cash App Taxes for $0-15 total, including federal and state e-file.

ah nice, thanks for the info, its good it gives the free federal e-files.

i prefer to use TT for now because it handles stocks and dividends pretty good, but its not perfect. i remember trying freetaxusa once and while it can technically handle stocks and dividends, the help text it gives for stock stuff was not as good... and i dont think it could import from Fidelity like TT can.

i really wish there was a competitor to TT that was super good at stocks and dividends.

I searched in fidelity wesite for turbotax and it sent me to this page - has mid-jan message:

You're eligible for an exclusive TurboTax® offer!
As a select Fidelity customer, you qualify to file for free with TurboTax Online Premium.* You'll see the link here mid-January.

I didn't see it yesterday when you posted but I see it today that I qualify, see attached. On the Summary page:
