I've used this for our camping trip where it got to 38F at night and it was a life saver. Just know that it creates A LOT of moisture in the air.

It says a run time of 5.6 hours. Can anyone verify that this is accurate? I was thinking of using it for a smaller sized room 15x12. Anyone with this have an estimate of how long it takes to warm up a room of that size aprox? Thanks.

Bought the Buddy Flex instead, a better deal at $80. Wider heat area and not easily falling over like the buddy heater.
I've got 3 Buddies: Portable, Big and Flex. All work fine, but Flex has a wider coverage, and owing to the radiant energy spread warming objects instead of air, is more effective in larger spaces, or with more people, than the ceramic versions. IMO, AMZ shouldn't have them listed as 'space heaters' since they heat objects, albeit within a specified 'space'. The chinese diesel heaters would be a better option if you truly want a large heated air space. I don't think Mr Heater calls these 'space' heaters, just radiant. Recently, some YT'rs are 'upgrading' their garages/shops with diesel heaters after finding the Buddies lacking in heating up large spaces, which they're really not best equipped to do. These are fine in smaller spaces, will take the 'chill' out of the air, and of course are great in emergencies, but not ideal to 'space heat' a garage. Just my experience.

Could it be good for a couple of people sitting out in a screen porch (not enclosed like in a tent or something) when it is like 40 F? Or it is mainly for camping?
Perfect for that

Warning everyone, this is the mh9bx model, NOT the MH-F232000. This model is NOT indoor safe. If you want the indoor safe model it is the MH-F232000.

No venting required. I purchased one last January when the electric company FUBARed our substation doing upgrades on the coldest day of the year. Was without power for about 18 hours. The little thing easily kept a 20x12 room warm.

this is just for state legislation. they label it as outdoor only. I don't see any difference with the other model..theyre both mh9bx. one is F232050 vs F232000..i could be wrong tho

I posted this earlier this week, a Mr. Heater Big Buddy clone from Tractor Supply on clearance for $70 if you can find a store in your area with stock. I live in Baltimore area, Bel Air MD store had 6 in stock when I bought mine. Use it to heat my 12 x 14 shed/workshop, so far it is great!

LOL, it doesn't create moisture Wink

My assumption is you had moisture condensing on the sides of your tent (or uninsulated small building) because the inside was warmer than the outside. Any similar source of heat would have done that. The moisture was there regardless...probably as a result of your respiration.

Burning propane non-vented like this most certainly DOES produce moisture. I can tell you my shop has two big electric heaters and one big non-vented propane heater...everything is wet if I use the propane heater+electric (for the really cold days), everything is dry if only using the electric.

For everyone looking to heat stuff with these, the room should be vented (crack a window), and this is a temporary heating solution. It's more for ice fishing/hunting shack/camping/emergency use than for, I want my basement or spare bedroom heated.

These, unless I'm reading wrong, do NOT have any carbon monoxide safety on them. You will need a carbon monoxide detector to be safe. I have a couple of these and the bigger cabinet heater for when my power goes out (big snow storm two years ago took out a ton of power lines, almost 3 days in a northern Wisconsin winter without power), they worked great, but I had a couple windows cracked open and a couple CO detectors. I overdid it as I found out the big cabinet 18k btu in my basement would heat the whole house good enough, but it also wasn't super cold then (like 25-30deg, we had it go out once when it was -40 then I'm sure I'd have all of them running 😂).

Yes, in that scale (well at any scale) LP can cause some moisture through condensation (via a reaction with the air) during the combustion process. But that is going to be so insanely negligible on a 9K BTU heater (especially compared to waste humidity from human's in the same sealed space breathing / sweating). What AnsonL6358 was complaining about while "camping" is likely moisture from the hair thin tina fabric and the condensation against t between the relatively warm inside air and the "38F at night " outside. Their complaint would be like blaming a can of Coca Cola on a summer day for "creating" moisture on the outside of the can.

In that scale (not 9000 BTU....) it sounds like you are accidently turning your garage into 'condensing furnace.' Gross oversimplification of course. And I bet the days you choose to run the electric only vs the electric AND gas furnaces also happen to have very different outdoor temps / conditions, leading to different results in your unsealed garage space.

But yes, technically I did misspeak.

You are incorrect. Simple google search.

Key points about propane heaters and moisture:

Chemical reaction:
The combustion process of propane produces water vapor as a by-product, meaning for every amount of propane burned, a significant amount of water is released into the air.

Ventilation is crucial:
Without proper ventilation, the produced water vapor remains trapped indoors, causing increased humidity levels and potential condensation issues.

Impact on enclosed spaces:
In small or poorly ventilated spaces like RVs or campers, using a propane heater can quickly lead to noticeable moisture build-up due to the concentrated water vapor release.

Again, you are wrong. It is not negligible. You are putting almost 2lbs of water into the air for every 1lb of propane burnt, That's one small green canister.
