If you're worried about breaking your pocket hole jig, then you're using it wrong.

Your drill is made of plastic, and it doesn't break unless you seriously abuse it.

Kreg uses steel where necessary and a high quality glass impregnated nylon for the rest. They are plenty strong and durable for their intended use so there's not much reason to switch to aluminum.

I agree that their shipping prices can be a bit high. If you live near a store they ship to store for free.

Order Summary
Merchandise Subtotal: $39.99
Processing Fees: $2.80
Delivery Charges: $12.32
Sales Tax: $5.10
Total $60.21

The lowest its ever been on Amazon was $80 3 months ago for reference.

I don't like how they sneak that processing fee in on the second to last screen...

I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to compare it to competitor brands to see if it's still slick after shipping

the item seems to be more solid than the Kreg that I have. The base is plastic not sure how well it will hold up in the long run.

You can get Chinese ones made out of milled aluminum for the same price. Don't settle for cheap plastic.

Out of lightweight material that is meant to absorb drop impacts or vibrations without cracking/breaking. You picked the worst possible tool choice for your "gotcha".

I have a clamp-in-place Kreg which has been great but I'd like one with vacuum and bench mount... Aluminum like the Powertec one seems like a good option. Is there a reason for Kreg or Armor-tool over an aluminum version?

Yes, but in this case I meant it as in buying a Chinese product directly from a Chinese store rather than a domestic one. Shipping is crazy fast these days, especially for BG.
