Apparently it's possible to increase brightness to 1000 nits with software, it was software limited to 600 for battery life. The apps are called Vivid or BetterDisplay

Local costco showed a bunch in stock in the app last night, but none this morning. Price matched to BB on the first try. Ended up using a $1200 gift card I received yesterday from a geek squad claim on our TV. Upgrading from a M1 Air 8gb/256gb.

Here's my chat prompt if it helps anyone:

The $1,400 M4 MacBook Pro does NOT have Thunderbolt 5. The M4 Pro MacBook Pro does which is currently selling for $1,900 at Best Buy.

Yes, think about it: T5 allows you to use external drives at the same speed as if they were internal drives, making it unnecessary to pay for more internal usage. With Apple, you pay much more for internal storage than its worth, so I would buy a unit with more RAM instead. Also, think about resale value, m3 machines' prices are dropping like a rock on eBay, check them out; with m4 you'll have a bit more room in case you'll need to sell it. Lastly, m4 Pro chips offer a very good performance not only over m3 Pro but even m3 Max in most important benchmarks. Finally, if you don't have the Best Buy credit card and sign up for it, you'll get 20% off that would make it close to the price of M3 Pro at Costco.
For his usage there just wouldn't be any point.
I don't think paying $400 more will insure you get $500 extra when you sell it, you also have a more expensive product which would be a more important loss if it breaks
Thunderbolt 4 speeds are around 5000MB/s which would pretty much be the speed of the internal drive of these mbps (though you likely don't need to match that speed for general use).
The M4 pro would seem to be about 30-40% faster than the M3 pro but you pay 40% more for it.
His M1 max is still more performant than the M4 pro GPU (and likely doesn't even utilise a fraction of its power)
It would seem the pricing is proportional to what you get. So it would be more natural to purchase depending on your needs.

Fantastic deal at this price. I paid about 1500 for my m1 14 inch mbp a few years back and it's still blazing fast but I'm tempted to trade in get this one for a lower price. Insane how the prices have come down.

Soon to be 2 years old laptop. Still great, but my choice would be new Air 15.3' 16GB all day long.
This laptop release in November 2023 I won't call it a two year old laptop

Was able to replicate this 2 times in the very first try. Both chat reps one from Safari and one from Google Chrome at the same time approved the price match. You don't need to have it in stock near your costco, they just need the product link from Costco. Ordered 2 and received 1 already, another one coming tomorrow. Thanks!

M4 is soon to be a year old laptop, I'd take the new M5 all day long!

So I am returning my $1,699 M4 Pro 24GB Macbook Pro for this one. Got BB to price match it since it's in stock at my local Costco. Just not worth another $525 for me. $1302 shipped for the M3 Pro.
I'm also in the same boat dude. Can you give me the store location and zip code so I can price match with Bb.

I got an m3 pro from costco, but I am having a tough time making a case to keep it. I have a Lenovo Yoga 9i 32gb. I ran the same programs like pcharm, spring boot, light room, java, chrome 10 tabs, and I feel with 18gb, MacBook pro was always using 14gb (78% mem usage). On the other hand, Yoga used 22gb (68% usage), plus it had many other programs running. Mac has a gorgeous display, but Yoga has it too. Anyway, I instead bought 5.5 shares of apple to hold for 4 years 🤣

People did get using Georgia locations. Athens can be tried.

Tried PM on bestbuy yesterday and it worked, but I didn't have plans for new year yet and couldn't finalize it. Tried today on 12 different chats and it's not possible to PM. So sad about that

M3 pro vs M4 base hard to justify.

M4 advantage
Quantum Dot display
Better battery and single core performance

M3 pro
2 Gb ram with 150Gb/s memory bandwidth
4 extra GPU

I don't need GPU. But hard to justify which with M3 I save 200$ more

problem for me is m4 base does not support dual monitors, there are things like that to make the m4 not an option
