Apparently it's possible to increase brightness to 1000 nits with software, it was software limited to 600 for battery life. The apps are called Vivid or BetterDisplay

Local costco showed a bunch in stock in the app last night, but none this morning. Price matched to BB on the first try. Ended up using a $1200 gift card I received yesterday from a geek squad claim on our TV. Upgrading from a M1 Air 8gb/256gb.

The $1,400 M4 MacBook Pro does NOT have Thunderbolt 5. The M4 Pro MacBook Pro does which is currently selling for $1,900 at Best Buy.

Best Buy price matched for me even though it was OOS locally at Costco. Costco has the 14" m4 non-pro in stock for $1299. I would prefer to buy from Costco but felt that the m3 pro with 18gb was worth it over the similarly priced ($50 more) m4 with 16gb. Main thing I'll lose is a slightly better front camera. It's $1399.99 in Costco for the M4, not $1299.
