That's because this is an SD advertisement posted by an SD employee/ editor. Don't be fooled by the inflated MSRP. SD has automatically posted this to front page status even with very few up votes so they get their affiliate money.

Bought these a year ago for $649, unfortunately that did not include center channel. Have been very happy with the purchase, though I wish the deal then had been for black.

Ok, how on earth did you get this deal to come up?

When I list Definitive Technology speakers on the Adorama website, this bundle shows up as $1499. But obviously if I click on the SD link, it shows me the special discount price.

Anyone know how these would compare to some Klipsch R-26Fs?
Or Klipsch RP-8000Fs?

Also, does anyone only need the D5c center? if I purchase the bundle, I won't need the center channel.

Go for it. It's a steal at this price. Will best the 280s. The 8000f iis are a different beast. Place them right, they can outmatch the d17. you may need an amp to drive them as they can go down to 4 ohm sometimes

Probably a dumb question but I am moving soon and debating on selling what I have now and redoing my theater room completely. I have Klipsch RF7 mains. I know the klipsch are much more expensive but would these even compare? Thanks

Does this mean that I don't need a separate sub if I get these ? Are the subwoofer powerful enough in these speakers?

They aren't subwoofers, they are passive radiators. You will still need subs.

Although these speakers are great value, RF-7 is in a different league. Keep yours or change them to upgraded RF-7 III.

Is there any special wiring needed for that or just the normal quality gauge speaker wire from a receiver? Additional amp needed?

IMHO these are great speakers and a great value, really glad I bought them about 18 months ago. They've been on SD a really long time, over and over again. I got the towers for around this price and found the bookshelf and center channel on separate deals. This is the core of an 11.1 Definitive speaker system. I have the main 7 speakers (these 5 and two surrounds) powered by a Cowboy amp, and a Denon 4700 as the sound processor and power for 4 overhead speakers. The room is not a great layout, kind of an open concept sunken den (think 1970s) attached to a kitchen. The fireplace is HUGE and required a really odd floor plan, optimized for viewing a large screen and not for audio. Even so, this combination is amazing. The white speakers have a wow factor that people notice when they walk in and movie nights are popular. I had the exact same setup but with pretty high end Polk towers and center channel and rears before these speakers. It was good too, but these speakers elevated it to great! I've bought a lot of Definitive speakers over the years and do enjoy the sound, but these are the first towers I bought without integrated power. I do have them going through an amp, but I think these are fairly comparable to the Definitive towers with integrated power and are much less expensive.

It's the subtle sounds that get me usually, where you think you're hearing something in the real world, not from the speaker but it's from the speaker. That's a bit of a magic trick, and it really confuses my dog!

If this is a blind buy gamble and open to white, at this price, I would toss these Revel Concerta2-F35's into the conversation.

They definitely compete with the speakers mentioned, they do like power and back ordered until 01/09 though.

Nothing against Adorama but personally prefer Crutchfield a little more and you get 60 days return window.

This is a crazy ass deal. My dad has his DT speakers with powered side subs for the last 15 years, still sound perfect like the day he bought them.
