This is intended for freshwater, but I think it would hold up to smaller reds and trout. Not for bull reds.

But, you will really need to take care with maintenance, definitely give it a soapy wash and rinse with freshwater when done with it. Make sure you really rinse the line on the reel well also. Salt will be all in the line which will eventually corrode the spool.

I would just caution people to maybe call ahead and confirm if you're going to make a longer trip to snag one of these. Maybe it's just a bigger issue in my area, but I drove 45 mins to a DSG to pick up a different Lew's combo only to find it was missing the reel and the rod was clearly used, and then drove another 30 mins or so for an even different combo and they didn't have it at all. I also bought multiple reels that shipped from local stores and once received the wrong item, and another received a clamshell packaged reel that had been cut open.

One of the stores I was at also had some empty reel boxes. Basically their inventory control seems really bad.
