I just watched an extremely knowledgeable person on youtube last night regarding setting up an entire solar system. I'm going to re-watch his videos again (the one I watched was from 6 or 9 mo ago... and about 36 min long (or something like that). He goes over EVERYTHING, thoroughly, with regards to what you will need, gauge wire, and more importantly (for me) the WHY you need this or that.

Nov sale got 2 plastic one and 2 metal one. Metal one believe to be the same as DC House 165Ah even its label said 150Ah.

Ran full capacity test twice against each version. Here are the result. Plastic version has capacity 149Ah vs metal version capacity as 161Ah with 33-14A little over 0.2c.

Plastic version seams to have worse voltage drifting above 3.45v and ends with single cell over voltage protection above 3.65v to cutoff charging while metal version has very low voltage deviation among 4 cells even after 3.5v and ends with 14.35v set in bench power supply w/o single cell over voltage. So myself liked metal version more than plastic version based on charge curve alone.

The only con for metal is the weight 9lb heavier than plastic one. Metal case also can be stacked provided you put one 1 inch thick wood in between due to the handle on the top

Could you explain why the charger should be removed? It's not like keeping a lead acid battery indefinitely connected to a battery tender so it always stays fully charged?

If you want to splurge, I just saw a video utilizing the Ecoflow alternator charger. I'm going to wait for it to go on sale for $200 again, hopefully.

The alternator charger is so worth it. I have 2 of these batteries (DC House 165AH) and have them wired in series and use with the alternator charger and it works flawlessly. My next project is to add Anderson connectors to the batteries and alternator charger wires to make them quick connect.

I'm not sure, it's just that's the instructions I've seen. Maybe some chargers can be left connected if both the charger and battery is designed for that? But in general the chargers I've used recommend disconnecting them after charge even though in theory they stop charging when the battery is full.

One limitation to work around is when a 12v battery is connected as a power source to a power station the power station thinks it's from a car and will limit the input to 10 amps more or less. Some newer Econflows has a setting to override this limitation. Sometimes a device is added between the battery and power station to boost the voltage higher, just make sure this voltage booster is rated to take the amperage that will be passing from the battery to the power station, otherwise the booster will overheat and become a fire hazard. There are youtube videos on people using cheap under rated boosters and ones showing the very high temperature that result when doing this. I looked into doing this too that's how I know. But if all you need is adding at about 120 watts then it's just as simple as connecting the battery directly to the power station.

That is one of its uses, but you can use it outside of a vehicle for the solution you want. Charging your Ecoflow battery with an external lifepo4 battery. Just make sure your Ecoflow is compatible with the alternator charger.

While your correct and it is a really fast way to charge up a large PowerStation.
It's also over the price of another battery, and if your not concerned about charging speed
a simple XT60i cable hooked directly to the battery and PowerStation will get the job done for about $20

Thanks, I didn't realize this kind of cable existed. That's basically what I was looking for, but how do you insert a fuse into this kind of cable setup? Seems two different types of cables would be needed that connect to a fuse.

Yeah, after looking into that Ecoflow alternator charger option more, it's overkill for my needs.

Would that XT60i to O Ring Terminal Cable item that you linked to (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCS1RYBB) work to allow more power to be supplied from the 12V battery? I wasn't clear if you meant that a XT60i cable simply needed to be used (as opposed to a XT60 cable) or if some modification to the XT60i cable needed to be done.

I'm also considering that metal case battery. But what exactly is the benefit of the metal case? Is it mainly for durability so that the LiFePO4 batteries inside don't get physically damaged, for example if the battery unit is dropped or smashed into something?

Also, why are the battery terminals of the metal case battery on the side instead of facing upwards?
