Is this game accumulative with regards to playable characters ? For example , would a character from the 21 edition be available (either free or purchasable ) in this 24 edition ?

This product is different from any other year. It's also a partial product, or shareware. The game has over 300 characters, many of which are behind a paywall. Starting from 2023, they stopped offering a complete edition and won't sell older editions at a discount. You buy it for the year, and they plan to delist previous years' versions. One way or another, you'll have to pay $60+ for a version, and the standard edition is very limited in characters. They won't offer 2k24 as they are currently working on 2k25, and they will end support for 2k24 soon. This will be their overall operation strategy from this point forward. By removing previous editions, it forces people to buy into the latest version, so they won't offer it cheap but rather remove it from availability.

From 2k23 onward, the game is fantastic. But it's expensive for the experience when there are other options.
