FWIW, in my own limited experience with older new-in-box product, I've never encountered a non-functional battery in any old stock Dewalt or Bosch kit, with date codes as much as 4-5 years old. I did have a clearance Hart 40V that I had do the 'wire another battery to it for a few minutes trick' to bring the voltage up enough so it would take a charge.
If that option isnt there that means its not in stock in store... or maybe only 1 is in stock.

Also, Home Depot annd acme often get the new m1/2 3/8" and 1/2" stubby impact kits for about $155 that absolutely destroy this thing in every conceivable metric.
Price will go down at some point next month. If you do get one, hold on to receipt to price match when it inevitably goes down to $80 ish
For my dad I just bought this kit since he already has some DeWalt tools, the head on this one is about as short as you can get and the power is good, just what you want for working on cars.
