DO NOT buy the 4GB model, it hangs and unable to keep apps open. Its just a really large alarm clock for what it is.

Agreed. My kids didn't mind, but I had to return because it was slow and crashed for anything I tried to use it for. I ended up getting the 11" version with 8gb for $300 on sale a couple months ago.

I acknowledge this is a deal for what it is, just wouldn't recommend to a friend

I have the 4GB version, it used to hang when opening or running Android apps but it seems to have gotten better with a recent system update. Still kind of slow when opening Android apps, but doesn't freeze as much. The Chrome browser and the other native ChromeOS apps are snappy. The screen and speaker are amazing.

Just a bit of warning, OLED does not automatically mean good nowadays. I bought an entry level Motorola g stylus 2024, it's oled but it's not as good as a good LCD.
I'll disagree on that
for example the LCD screen on the iphone XR looks far worse than even a mid range moto for $300. I'm aware the XR is old but it's high quality

I'd be interested to know if this experience was consistent from day 1 or if, instead, it developed over time with newer updates to ChromeOS and the associated applications?

Good luck!

I used to own a 4GB Chromebook last year. Some of the apps occassionaly hung or sometimes forced closed (mostly andriod apps). (and that's why I sold it)
We are just few days away to 2025, The OS and apps could only be getting bigger and bigger. I agreed that we should be looking for 8GB models for a new device.

I personally haven't been daily driving a 4GB Chromebook since 2022 (around the AUE date for my Acer R11). Even back in 2022 there were some apps that tested the limits of that configuration. As such, I've stuck to 8GB models since that time with the Samsung Galaxy, Samsung Galaxy 2, ASUS C433, and most recently the Acer Plus 514.

Good luck!

The one I owned and sold actually has AUE until June 2031. But as mentioned earlier, a 4GB CB is nothing more than a device for streaming video, light web browsing and light doc works in years to come. Maybe some of you could use it with LINUX.

I got this two weeks ago for $87. And I disagree about issues. Too me this is a media tablet with Chrome. The few android games that I do use seem to work well.
But as a Chromebook I use Chrome for "ALL" my media consumption and do not download any apps... only way to get full HD content with paid subscriptions.
I also use an app called "killapps" and it helps close everything. I basically turn off all notifications. And run this thing as lean as possible.
I will add that I have a laptop to type with and use this exclusively as a tablet and I am HAPPY with the results.

What else do you use a Chromebook for? And don't say to play call of duty.

I am surprised at how little attention this deal got. IMHO, this is a streaming joy and having "FULL PC CHROME" is so nice.
I will mention this again.... the free version is all you need. Download the app, "Killapps" from the google play store and run this app daily to clear your memory.
So far the biggest down side I see is.... when you start your tablet, it needs like 60 seconds longer... that is, if I start a app during this 60 second period (maybe it is only 15 seconds), the app tends to freeze. If I give it that minute for the system to fully open, the apps seem to run perfect.
Main reason why I got this tablet... besides that it cost me $87 for the 4GB / 128GB version. Is the 13.3" OLED screen. If you stream through the "Chrome browser" you can get up to full HD, if you stream through an app, you will not have Widevine Level 1 support, but you do have that support through "chrome"... so go to "WEBSITES" and use the app as little as possible.

The first thing I noticed is that I need to wait like 30 - 60 seconds AFTER it is ready to be used once it is turned on and if I don't the tablet seems to freeze up. But if I do give it a minute the tablet works perfect.
The main apps that is giving me problems is Chrome... when I hit the multi tab button... sometimes it does not work properly. I then have to turn it off.
I play clash royal no issues and I stream from different sources NO ISSUES.
As mentioned before... I use the app, "killsapp" and I find it helps keep the tablet running as smooth as possible.
I got mine for $87.00... but even at $163... I think it is a great deal. My battery had ZERO cycles used and the tablet was in mint condition.
Thinking I could use Kiwi browser which should be less taxing then Chrome... but the app seems to fail. This really should not be a concern since it does have Chrome.
