How would this be for my Meta Quest 3? Also, never had a wi-fi 6 router before (but my PC is wifi 6 ready). If I get 275 Mbps with my ethernet connection, what can I expect with a wifi6 router on 5.0 GHz band? My PC is about 10 feet from my cable modem. Would love to get rid of my wired connection.

No. Merlin is limited to Asus routers.
There is currently no open source firmware available for Netgear AX routers (and no light at the end of the tunnel for those unfortunately)

I got one of these 2 years ago on eBay for 17$. I think it was a SD post. Ended up giving it to a friend. Was a major upgrade for them.

I wouldn't worry about that too much, since it seems like all routers including the new ones also have some sort of a backdoor or some sort of a vulnerability.

Router backdoors are not a thing unless you check the little box that say allow someone outside your home network to manage your router. It's not on by default.
