Available Colors:
  • Matte Light Grey (M or L)
  • Metallic Coal/Tan (S or M)
About this Item:
  • If you are equally comfortable dropping into big mountain lines, tight tree shots, and big features in the park; the Owen is for you. Minimalist styling is married to premium innovations like Spherical Technology (powered by Mips®) to create a helmet for a full day of comfort in the mountains. The In Form™ 2 Fit System lets you quickly adjust the sizing of the helmet, and the Thermostat Stealth™ System lets you control air flow
  • HARDSHELL WITH IN-MOLD HARDBODY™ LOWER WRAP — The two-piece shell combines a tough outer hard shell with a polycarbonate lower shell permanently fused to the liner for durability without excess weight.
  • SEAMLESS COMPATIBILITY — For optimal performance of both helmets and goggles, Giro products are designed to work together, ensuring a seamless interface between helmet and goggle for an exceptional fit and dependable, worry-free function.
  • STACK VENT TECHNOLOGY — Our Stack Vent was developed based on research showing the majority of warm air that can cause fogging comes from the goggle's center top vent. Aligning the Stack Vent in the helmet with the center vent of the goggle helps keep it clear and fog-free.
  • THERMOSTAT CONTROL — Thermostat Control Adjustable Venting allows you to custom-tune airflow instantly with a simple, low profile control button on the outside of the helmet. No other system is faster or easier to adjust, and nothing is more effective at keeping you comfortable.
  • IN FORM FIT SYSTEM — The In Form Fit System makes it easy to dial in a custom fit in seconds - even with gloves on. An ergo-friendly dial at the base of the helmet provides up to 6cm of adjustment and enhanced stability

WHAT IS SPHERICAL TECHNOLOGY?
The unique ball-and-socket design of Spherical Technology utilizes two separate liners to help manage impact forces. The material and density of the inner and outer liners can be optimized with Progressive Layering to help manage a broad range of impact forces: the Insurgent features an outer EPS layer (to address high-speed impacts) and an inner EPP layer (with rebound characteristics designed to handle slower speed falls.) When you combine the benefits of Progressive Layering with the market-leading Mips® Brain Protection System, which can help redirect rotational energy away from the brain, you get more comprehensive protection.\\\

HOW DOES SPHERICAL TECHNOLOGY WORK?
Developed at the Bell+Giro Dome laboratory in partnership with Mips®, Spherical Technology's unique Ball-and-Socket Design redirects impact forces, bringing market-leading design, performance and brain protection together without compromising comfort, ventilation, weight or style.

Having to take off the helmet to adjust vents is stupid, especially at this price point. Smith Mission does it with a slider on the outside of the helmet, as does the Giro Ratio.

Would have def got this if I didn't just buy a Pret Fury X for $78. Last year's gear as being sold at quite a discount.

Needed a helmet asap as mine took a wreck

As greenwood said, spherical is not = round head.

I do agree having to take off your helmet to adjust your vents ain't practical. They tried to make the design clean by hiding the adjustment.

I have one of these minimalist helmets and with the number of front vents this one has, you're probably going to have those vents wide open most of the time unless is super cold like negatives. And this will be too warm for Spring riding. At least the ear muffs on mine are easy to remove, not sure if this one has removable ones.

So the ear flaps don't accommodate speakers? I am looking for a new helmet that does. Any suggestions?

The ear flaps are really shallow and kinda hurt at first. Had to break them in for a few days but now they're good. Definitely no "pocket" to hold speakers

Yep spherical is not a true round fit, but I found this to be much more round/wider than non-spherical Giro helmets. It's somewhere between standard and true round fit on some of their helmets like the Neo AF.

It does look surprisingly like an M3 tactical helmet. Remember never to remove it during a live fire exercise.

"Spherical" has nothing to do with head shape.

No. You want something that is DOT/SNELL rated for a motorcycle. MIPS and/or Spherical is helpful for safety (I know this from firsthand experience unfortunately), but the helmets are rated for bicycle speeds (think 10-20mph, not 30+).

Why would they only be rated for 20mph? It's common for advanced skiers to go 40mph+, and biking can go 40mph as well on a road bike, especially downhill.

It's not motorcycle speeds of course but 20mph is way too low for a mips helmet rating.
