Google acemagic malware and it was all over the news on tech sites throughout the year. https://www.theregister.com/2024/...infection/

https://www.tomshardware.com/desk...t-shipment

https://www.guru3d.com/story/spyw...-concerns/

https://hothardware.com/news/acem...led-on-pcs

I personally own a couple of their laptops and will never buy another acemagic product ever again. Not worth the headache.
In my opinion, acemagic should never be listed on slickdeals as they are still shipping compromised hardware.
Thanks! Appreciate you sending this info...it'll be a pass for me also. Saving a few $$ isn't worth the risk...

Just so people know, I bought this one over black Friday and yes it still had the malware. But I did a clean wipe. All is good
what was the malware that you found?

opnSense (& pfSense) do not work well with RealTek NICs. Unless you have a source saying otherwise, I would assume the product in the OP has RealTek NICs.
Does OpenWRT make any difference?

Yes, it absolutely makes a difference. In general, modern Realtek NICs are reliable under Linux.

Would this work well as a dedicated music server connected to an external HD with a very large music library (> 3 TB)? I'd use USB out to a DAC in my audio system. Would not use it for anything other than audio. Thanks.
Quick answer: Yes. It'll be fine. Overkill even.

Isn't the N100 slower? Where can we get a better deal? Thanks
The N100 is a higher binned chip. that is why it has about the same performance for half the TDP. Aliexpress. These things can be had for cheap on there. You are paying a hefty amazon markup

For those doing a Clean Install of Windows 11 from bootable USB, does it automatically keep the serial (or whatever) noting that it's a valid copy of Windows? Anything special required for this?

The N97's GPU is clocked 60% higher than the N100's. I'm not an expert, but it seems that at least some of the additional power draw would come from that.

Anyone's thoughts on if this would be good for a dedicated streaming PC solely to run OBS/ Streamlabs?

This seems awesome. What's the catch? I've previously been looking at the new Mac mini and know it's more power than I need. Goal was really to hook it up to my router via Ethernet and use it to interface with my synology nas for plex and file downloading etc
The catch is it comes free Malware.

God I hate intel CPU nomenclature

One would think that the n97 would be weaker than n100, bigger number usually means better CPU right?

But no! The n97 is better than the n100...why not call it n105? N110?

Anyway, good deal lol
N97 is 5% better but consumes twice the power (6W vs 12W).

I still think N100 > N97.
