Edit: It's actually much more complicated than that with various licensing agreements between the huge corporations that actually own the brand names and manufacturing through lots of different factories in dozens of countries.

Why is everyone on SD so crazy about brushless motors? They do have their advantages, but I think most casual users / homeowners would fail to notice them.

Why is everyone on SD so crazy about brushless motors? They do have their advantages, but I think most casual users / homeowners would fail to notice them.
Most people don't use their brushed motor tools long / hard enough to ever have to replace the brushes (brushes can be replaced people). The batteries fail before that point, or the tools become so old that they end up getting replaced by better / newer ones.
If you make your living with your tools, then sure, brushless motors are probably right up your alley. I suspect must such people are not in the Ridgid ecosystem.

No sparks or ozone, lighter weight and more compact, longer battery life, lower maintenance...all things a DIYer appreciates.
I have the hi torque, brushless ridgid from a year or two ago I got for around $130 with two batteries and a charger. Needed all 1400 ft-lbs to remove those stubborn rear shocks on my minivan.
Btw - "Tool Only" is selling for $159.
