So tech problems someone else mentioned put aside for a memont, The first edition Kindle Scribe was a great piece of hardware For someone who just wants a top of the end Kindle.
But for somebody looking for a robust digital note taker / annotator / etc, I highly highly recommend looking at the Scribe's competitors as well.
Kindle - Great for reading but just okay at note taking.
Remarkable supports epub and PDF, you'll need to remove the DRM & convert your Kindle books with an app like Calibre.

If you read through the negative reviews of the scribe you find the occasional real criticism of note taking ability and features compared to actual competitors (remarkable, boox, supernote, etc.) but you also see an ASTOUNDING amount of people saying the display isn't as sharp as their old iPad or it "lags" like a 10 year old device.
As with most specialized/niche devices, listening to the general public on feedback for these is an exercise in masochism.

1) I do wish it were a bit more snappier. I know I cannot expect it to be as fast as an iPad. But some competitors like Boox have really fast refresh times (fast enough to even play video).. Of course those are more expensive devices, but the point is that it's not the best in its class in terms of speed.
2) Audiobook usage was a bust for me. Every audiobook starts exhibiting sound cracking/stuttering after a few minutes of audio playback (tried multiple headphones, including Amazon's own Echo buds). I complained to Amazon and they replaced the device. The new one had the same issue. I got it replaced again, and the third one had the same exact issue. At that point I gave up and resigned to not use it for audiobooks. A few other reviews mentioned the same issue. Not sure if it's a firmware problem or I got unlucky with a bad batch.

I tried just trade-in options without actually checking out. It shows most of my Kindle devices have $5 value, Fire tablets has $15 value and echo devices have $5 regardless which generation.

Caveat 1 — if you have DRM-free manga from other sources (CBR. CBZ, JPG etc. formats), the Kindle will not be able to display them natively. You will need to use an open source software called kindle comic converter (or KCC). You can find instructions for use on GitHub. It even supports reading in original Manga reverse order or converting them to the western 'flip right to progress' order. You will then need to transfer the converted file to your kindle via USB.
Setup of the software can be a bit unintuitive (it needs a file within Amazon's own Kindle Previewer software; KCC is supposed to autodetect the needed file, but that didn't happen for me so had to get it from the software package). You may have to play around with settings. The 'Scribe' preset didn't work as well for me, so I used 'Other' preset while feeding in the scribe resolution. The scribe preset preserves margins which is basically blank space on many manga, so the pages were not zoomed in fully. The 'Other' preset crops out the blank margins.
Caveat 2 — even though Scribe has a native resolution of 1860x2480, the converted manga will have a resolution of max 1920 vertical resolution (i.e 1440x1920 for that aspect ratio). This is a limitation of the conversion driver from Previewer software (Kindle does not support MOBI format above 1920 vertical res); nothing KCC can do about it. It's still a high enough resolution, so even in full-screen the resolution hit is not that noticeable. But something to be aware of.
Note - I haven't used the software since 1 and 1/2 years (I just converted all my manga and saved them; haven't used the software since). So things might be different with updates.
