i have the 2023 i'd.4 on a lease and can honestly say i'm counting down the days until this car goes back

one of the worst cars i've ever owned, technology is very poorly designed and frustrating, countless recalls and range is mediocre at best.

there are many more comparable options when it comes to EV. Chevy Equinox being one that is also very well priced.

My personal opinion would be to get him a used car if he or she a new driver. Cheaper insurance and less fear of damage. Damaging a leased car is going to be costly. Not meaning to offend or anything, just providing my own experience as an ex-college student.

Might want to consider a used EV instead. Model year 23 one owner vehicles under 25k should qualify for an additional 4k discount. the lease deal looks to be 10k per year for mileage. Prices exclude taxes and fees. I have an id 4. Can't say I would recommend it

3500 total in payments plus whatever fees end up being, can't end up being more than $6000 total. You can't even find old Toyotas for that cheap here.

Are you sure they need a car as a freshman student? Most college campus are easier to get around by foot, bike, scooter, or shuttle. ~$5k in payments and fees + electricity + teenager car insurance+ maintenance buys a lot of ubers over 2 years on the off chance they need one. They can get groceries delivered for $139/year with walmart plus if needed.

You're basically comparing the cost to rent a car with the cost of depreciation on a car you own. Apples and oranges.

If you're looking for the lowest cost of ownership, The question is will whatever car you buy depreciate more than or less than the cost of this two year lease in the same amount of time.

It all depends on many factors, like your insurance company, state you live in...
When my daughter got DL, couple weeks later I received letter from my insurance stating that according to their records, she has license now and since she lives at the same address, she has to be added to my policy. We live in digital age with constant surveillance, so you can't hide a lot of things.

Well worth $150 a month. Thats most id pay though. Better if you have some state incentives to sweeten the deal.

Most people insure the costly driver on the POS beater car, even if they aren't driving it. Family members are covered driving any car on the policy.

I was expensive to insure, definitely. But it was much easier to deal with as the primary driver of the old minivan used to haul around the family, even though I had a decent little sub-compact to drive around.
