I have a few of these and still find myself resorting to the ol' microwave (NOT IN THE MUG).
Otherwise great for 99% of people.

Just for context, the mug is supposed to be smart and it does have an app, it even has a timer. At least for me, it makes sense to have a simple schedule feature, so I can turn off the mug to save power, for example when I get into a meeting where don't have time to sip; and turn back on at a certain time, like after my meeting.
It is a somewhat niche product for sure.
They use the cheapest bluetooth, you almost have to have your phone inside the cup for it to see it.
The battery drains to zero in hours so you have to have that coaster near by.
It takes hours to charge the cup back up.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't charge when there is liquid in the mug, it just doesn't lose anymore.
Today's tech should take care of all of these issues. The bluetooth range should be the entire house, the battery should be double capacity (at least) and there should be a quick charge system.
Now, I have lived with all of these issues and still use the mugs every weekend.
I just can't believe there hasn't been a real update (I have v1 and v2 and there is no difference) or a competitor.
If you can grab these for under $70, I would jump on it if you love your drink temp consistent.
My wife uses her Ember mug every morning and says it is the best birthday gift she ever received.
But I can't get myself to buy this. Cause honestly I can't seem to justify the use case 'for me'. Cause, if I were to think about the reason to buy it, it seems superfluous (for me specifically; not generally). When I'm consuming coffee in my regular ceramic mug, of course it gets cold; but then the advantage is I can just throw it in the dishwasher when done. I can't do that with the ember. And if I need my coffee to be hot all through my consumption of it, I can use one of my Zojirushi coffee mugs. A Zojirushi mug will keep coffee hot for hours. Well beyond the time the ember can maintain temperature for. In fact they are so good that you have to be careful. If you are like me and prefer your coffee really hot, and if you forget how well they retain temperature, you can scald yourself even hours later. In this scenario too you have to manually clean up the mug later like the ember, but do you retain excellent temperature retention.
I see people saying they can enjoy beverages in an ember mug for 40 min without it losing temperature. Any Zojirushi fan will tell you — 40 min is nothing for those. Yes, I get that the ember keeps constant temperature all through, and it's a 'regular' mug shape and not a travel mug. But using a Zojirushi has advantages in other aspects— often I'll get busy and forget to finish my drink; only to be surprised by how hot it is 3 or 4 hours later; they are easily portable; they are much cheaper; no charging needing; lifespan is multiple times over. And you can keep your beverage hotter than the highest ember setting (if you so prefer).
(Again, not saying it's not a good purchase for others; just sharing my thought process in case it helps others contemplate their preferences).
So if you replace it once or twice a year the cost starts to add up.
Full disclosure: I never owned an Ember or a similar mug but I have owned several vacuum flasks (steel and otherwise)

There's nothing like fighting your coffee mug first thing in the morning every morning.
Just my experience...
