Sometimes a comment is so out of touch that a simple thumb down is not enough to express my bewilderment. 🤣

If you like hot beverages there is a use for it anywhere. It ensures that my last drink of tea/coffee/hot chocolate is the same temperature as my first drink. I love my ember!

Unless you live in death valley and only drink coffee outdoors in the middle of the summer then there is always a place for it... anywhere. What an odd thing to say.

Waiting for the refurb version to go on sale again for $55 with free shipping
Do you have any experience with the refurbished ones? I was concerned about the battery life on those

For anyone who likes their coffee and tea *hot* just be warned this will only keep your drinks *warm*.

I have a few of these and still find myself resorting to the ol' microwave (NOT IN THE MUG).

Otherwise great for 99% of people.

A lot of haters in this thread. It doesn't bother me though. My wife uses her Ember mug every morning and says it is the best birthday gift she ever received.
She loves you, not the mug...

You can say the same thing for 8GB of ram in a Mac. I'm guessing because this is a luxury item and probably funded by PE so they need to make their multiple back. I have a double insulated one that keeps my hot stuff hot for an hour and was $5. I am sure you can go to Ali and find one for $20 made int he same factory. Of course if they start charging you a subscription to charge it I would be worried.
This actually made me wonder so I went and checked, and sure enough there is the exact replica mug on Aliexpress. I would guess it is the same mug, it's even called Mug 2, same as this. However it's $57, so while still a lot cheaper, probably worth the extra bucks to get the brand name for ease of warranty replacement.

Is it really a slick deal to "save" money on something so expensive that you don't need at all and have lived your entire life just fine without? Maybe its yes for you. Many of us are just laughing at the idea.
I'm sure you have things you consider essential that others would deem useless trash.

I have one of these. It is good for non milk based drinks. But milk based always develops a film on the top of you don't drink it/stir it regularly enough. I have found keeping a foam layer on top seems to help reduce it though.

Not too sure if and why you are sarcastic over my comment.
Just for context, the mug is supposed to be smart and it does have an app, it even has a timer. At least for me, it makes sense to have a simple schedule feature, so I can turn off the mug to save power, for example when I get into a meeting where don't have time to sip; and turn back on at a certain time, like after my meeting.
It is a somewhat niche product for sure.
I've become used to the fact that these smart devices are really crippled in their smartness by their manufacturers. Whether that's on purpose or they just don't know the market, no idea. It irritates the hell out of me but I'm not buying into them until they make improvements. Most likely they'll come out with a second version or premium version and then charge you for that feature.

I love my 2 Ember mugs but they are infuriating for what the price.

They use the cheapest bluetooth, you almost have to have your phone inside the cup for it to see it.
The battery drains to zero in hours so you have to have that coaster near by.
It takes hours to charge the cup back up.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't charge when there is liquid in the mug, it just doesn't lose anymore.

Today's tech should take care of all of these issues. The bluetooth range should be the entire house, the battery should be double capacity (at least) and there should be a quick charge system.

Now, I have lived with all of these issues and still use the mugs every weekend.
I just can't believe there hasn't been a real update (I have v1 and v2 and there is no difference) or a competitor.

If you can grab these for under $70, I would jump on it if you love your drink temp consistent.

I wouldn't spend the money on this particular item for myself, but if someone gave it to me for a gift, I'd love it too.

I'm really tempted to buy this. Even put this on my cart. I get why people like it. I've spent countless on 'unnecessary' things in my lifetime so I'm not one to judge those who bought and enjoy it.

But I can't get myself to buy this. Cause honestly I can't seem to justify the use case 'for me'. Cause, if I were to think about the reason to buy it, it seems superfluous (for me specifically; not generally). When I'm consuming coffee in my regular ceramic mug, of course it gets cold; but then the advantage is I can just throw it in the dishwasher when done. I can't do that with the ember. And if I need my coffee to be hot all through my consumption of it, I can use one of my Zojirushi coffee mugs. A Zojirushi mug will keep coffee hot for hours. Well beyond the time the ember can maintain temperature for. In fact they are so good that you have to be careful. If you are like me and prefer your coffee really hot, and if you forget how well they retain temperature, you can scald yourself even hours later. In this scenario too you have to manually clean up the mug later like the ember, but do you retain excellent temperature retention.

I see people saying they can enjoy beverages in an ember mug for 40 min without it losing temperature. Any Zojirushi fan will tell you — 40 min is nothing for those. Yes, I get that the ember keeps constant temperature all through, and it's a 'regular' mug shape and not a travel mug. But using a Zojirushi has advantages in other aspects— often I'll get busy and forget to finish my drink; only to be surprised by how hot it is 3 or 4 hours later; they are easily portable; they are much cheaper; no charging needing; lifespan is multiple times over. And you can keep your beverage hotter than the highest ember setting (if you so prefer).

(Again, not saying it's not a good purchase for others; just sharing my thought process in case it helps others contemplate their preferences).
Although I agree entirely with the quality of Zojirushi and that it's significantly cheaper than an Ember there is one disadvantage. After several months of usage it develops an aftertaste that makes the coffee or tea taste totally weird. This is not specific fo Zojirushi but to vacuum flasks in general. I have tried all sorts of tricks to try to get rid of the aftertaste to no avail. Pretty much when it happens you have to toss it away and get a new one. Since Zojirushi is a quality product it doesn't come cheap. It's easy to see a typical travel flask at $20 or $25 on Amazon
So if you replace it once or twice a year the cost starts to add up.
Full disclosure: I never owned an Ember or a similar mug but I have owned several vacuum flasks (steel and otherwise)

Got it last time when it was $80. The reviews about it disconnecting after each use on Android is true. Most of the time, I just use it at 130F without connecting it to my phone, so it doesn't matter. But the app is truly terrible and constantly logs me out, and (separately) I have to go into the phone's Bluetooth settings to remove the mug and re-pair it.
The app was redesigned and it is a dumpster fire. For a while you couldn't log in to their servers to use the app.
There's nothing like fighting your coffee mug first thing in the morning every morning.
Just my experience...
