I'll wait halfway through the year for this to drop to the $300-350 range. If Micro Center was able sell the 7800x3d at the $300 range, I'm willing to bet that this one can too.

Sorry no. At 4K with a 4090 this still has a decent lead on the 9700X or 7700X and compared to the 7700x it uses less power.

Now if you play in QHD, you often see gains of 20% or more with a 4080.

The truth is you need a good GPU to pair with this, but as of right now this is the best CPU that money can buy.

Depends on what you're doing with it, what are your power requirements, and what resolution are you gaming at?

I find a 9700X running PBO, with DDR5 6000/6400 RAM, and an RX 7700XT or 7800XT to be a pretty balanced setup for gaming and application use.

If you care about Ray Tracing, then a 4070 Super would probably be a better GPU.

Oh and if you're using PBO, you probably want at least 240 Closed Loop cooler.

I agree. It seems the only true upgrade from the 40xx series is going to be the 5090.

You're going to be waiting several years with a dumb take like that, MC had a bundle deal for a few days that sold out at $480, the 7800x3d by itself has never sold below $350 new and with a lack of gaming competition Amd has no reason to drop prices

MC did have the 7800X3D @ $300 for a short time, and it showed up below $350 several times on Amazon, MC, and Newegg. I bought mine from an ebay deal for $310 last July.

Whether the 9800X3D will drop that low in the next six months is debatable.
