FWIW I've had luck buying GC in the past and just using it wherever. That trick works well when the offer excludes (or includes) only certain properties. e.g. let's say it was only for Residence Inns. So, go to a Residence Inn, buy a GC, then use it at any property. Never had an issue getting the AE credit. The larger issue tends to be that selling GC's is such a rare thing at a hotel, the clerk might not know how to do it.

I understand that the offer terms exclude gift card purchases, but I am wondering has anyone tried to buy Marriott gc that triggered the congratulations email for the offer..
Yes this has always worked for me. Since Marriott is a chain, Marriott GC should be usable as tender at any Marriott hotel. The primary issue I've had is finding a property that knows how to sell GC's. As you can imagine it's not like people are clamoring to buy hotel GCs.
Wtf, I don't have the offer on either my Bonvoy Brilliant or my Bonvoy Business card
Exactly why I downgraded my Brilliant Card when they upped the annual fee. Trick: downgrade 30 days after your AF and you'll keep the higher cert and still get refunded

One more year to Lifetime Platinum, then I'm definately moving off of the branded cards altogether, but good suggestion!
I get the crappiest offers - as expected don't see this on my card. Have been thinking of cancelling AmEx for quite some time .. this should do the trick.

You may have had the offer when it was first released, but at this point they have hit the max claims so it's no longer available for anyone.
Was able to book with this deal for prepayment for April reservation and have already gotten the credit back from Amex. Had $375 with $150 off and booked a premium hotel with breakfast and have access to pantry. Very good deal!
I'm wondering if I can keep the credit after cancelling the reservation. Anyone has tried it before?
When I see these and I don't have the offer it just makes me hate Marriott and Amex - makes me want to cancel my Amex and stop going to Marriott's which is a bit counter productive to their marketing scheme here

Edit: Nevermind, I guess I forgot to add it and it has reached max redemptions unless added
