The deal in December I missed due to holiday shopping for the family. On the straight talk site currently the iPhone 13 new is coming up as 249 when you add any plan. When adding the phone it pops up promo for existing customers but it allowed me to go through checkout as guest or logged in to my account. Automatically unlocks 60 days after activation

Can I buy this phone, activate it to get the unlock timer started and then put my BYOD TracFone Sim to

1. Achieve successful unlock and 2. Use my TracFone BYOD sim/plan without any issues ?

TIA

Its a TracFone technically, so if youre going to be putting in your own tracfone sim it might work. As it's not locked to a sim card but to TracFone (Straight Talk) until 60 days. It says TFW (trac fone wireless) up top on my phone by the clock and I have this phone deal soo maybe it will work

Probably a dumb question but I recently bought my son one of the year long Tracfone plans that came with a crappy Motorola. If I don't want to unlock and just want to get this for him to use with his existing service, can I just pop the existing Tracfone Sim into this?
No way to tell without the phone. If you had the phone, you would go through the activation on TF putting in the sim number to see if it would proceed. If it wouldn't, you would have to call TF to see if they would rebrand the ST phone to TF.

It won't activate without a plan. Maybe the TF sim will work, but doubt it without rebranding, and if it did, it probably won't unlock.
Tracfone unlock terms:
The cellphone was activated with TracFone service by purchasing and redeeming an airtime plan on that specific phone ("Activation")

I have two ip13 and idk what apple did this time with their updates but they literally are unusable. Take that as you wish. I'm starting to think ios18 was just too much.

-Random restarts
-gets hot
-ui freezes

🧂
iOS 18 is hot garbage and even the 16 feels just as crappy lol. I was wondering why my 12 felt slow and sluggish with the keyboard until I found out the latest iPhones were just as slow. Just at this point keep getting the newest iOS updates because it's only gonna get better with time

But for the keyboard issues I recommend turning off some settings in keyboard like
math predict
show predictions in line
Slide to type
Auto punctuation under dictation.

Also go on YouTube and look up iOS 18 performance tweaks. There's probably some settings you have enabled that's causing problems and slowing you down. I hope this helps

Are these new iphone 13's or refurbs? If refurb, who did the work? What is the warranty? Thanks.
According to a chat session the iPhone 13/128Gb is new. I'm in for one so we'll see.
Update: Phone arrived and is new. Activated and confirmed unlock date via automated text system. You need to send "help" first and then navigate the menus to confirm unlock date.

Sorry for the confusion. What I meant was, I activate the ST iPhone with the ST plan/sim in the box. Start the unlock timer, then use my BYOD TracFone SIM/plan in the ST iPhone.

I know for sure the locked ST IPhone will accept the TracFone sim but not certain about the unlock.

I am trying to achieve both - that way the phone is unlocked and free for any future changes and I can use my yearly tracfone SIM with this new locked ST Iphone 13 right out of the box.
Current Iphone battery is weak so this is an economical upgrade for me.

I had read some REDITT post in the past that tracfone sim work directly on ST Iphone without issues.
But again with tracfone nothing is for sure, they hate sim swaps.

You say you're sure the sim will work, but I'm not, until it's unlocked. You need the phone to find out

Pulled the trigger on this. Between the $15 from Chase, 12% from a cb site and a $140 trade in offer on my iPhone 12 mini with a degraded battery, this is a slick deal.

Is there an ST plan included in the box/price ?

I will warn you guys again, ST Cust Service sucks, out sourced... UPS lost or stole my phone on BF, so I called ST and "Once it leaves our shipping dock it's your problem" I had hours of calls between St and UPS and had to decline the charge and even the CC company says it's still open since ST wont call them back or talk to them, so I have to see what happens, UPS tracking shows it was lost at the UPS processing center and after closing my cases 5 times and me going nuts on them now says they will pay for it... Just walk away, you have been warned !!

Totally agree with you, I don't recommend even trying a different sim.
Another deal had a post where someone swapped in an active TF sim (after the 1st 30 days) got it to work but it borked the unlock. Customer had to contact support & the only thing they could do was have them buy a new plan & reactivate the phone to restart the unlock clock and then wait an additional 60 days for unlock.
If unlock is important it's best not to mess around with the Sim - activate the phone and wait till it unlocks before doing anything - it's not worth the hassle if/when something goes wrong.
