Windows runs in S mode on this and if you disable it, windows doesn't want to update because of lack of storage. I'm still working on mine to see if its a different underlying issue.
a micro SD slot would have been very useful for storage

I remember that there is an empty M.2 NVMe slot to put in a SSD drive in similar model (those with N4020, N4500). Try to do a clean install into the faster NVMe SSD drive, that will improve the performance (for swap file due to limited memory) and usuabilty (more and faster storage) of this laptop. Keep the original eMMC as secondary storage.
Though the TN panel is sth. hard to swallow.... Obviously, this is not fast, but at $100 for a brand new windows laptop, no complaint

$100 for a windows PC. In! All I need is a web browser and email. Comments on display can be ignored. Thanks for note on Windows S mode. For what I grabbed one for not concerned though could be a blocker if I use for anything beyond reason I grabbed one. As long as anything on the web works, email, turbo tax, other MS office tasks, and maybe website building works. This is an awesome deal.

If this is true, maybe I'll get one can anyone confirm?

Out of curiosity if all you need is web and email, why do you want Windows?
Many Chromebooks reach this price with a less resource intensive OS.

Fair question… compatible. Not everything works on android in PC mode. Turbotax as an example. Yes web version only works on either, though not every does.

got one of these a few weeks ago at $119 and its decent for the price but a micro SD slot would have been very useful for storage

There is a M.2 connector. But you will also need a screw.
