Backbone is more durable so far, and allows fast charge-through while playing, while the Kishi only supported slow charging, iirc. It also has a 3.5 mm jack, so you have the option of using a wired headset as well. I had a Kishi v2 and buttons started to fail after about a year of occasional use. Backbone also will allow you to use the phone in a thin case, Kishi required removing any case. Having owned both, get the Backbone.
mushy buttons, no hall effect, game sir is better for not much more.

backbone requires a subscription for most games on iOS according to reviews. 50$/yr or 5$/mo. First year free. Better hardware at a cost.

Gamesir G8 for about $10 more is what you want instead. Hall Sticks. All the rest being recommended in here are pure junk

I would second the recommendation of the G8. I've used every type of mobile controller (kishi v2 pro, backbone one, etc.) and they all suck in comparison. The G8 has excellent removable hall effect analog sticks, very good d-pad and triggers, and good buttons (and programmable R4/L4 middle finger buttons I use for many games). The most important thing is it is the most comfortable to hold and does not feel like a toy but an actual handheld akin to holding something more substantial like a steam deck. I paid a lot more for it on Amazon ($80) and would still recommend it, wouldn't hesitate to pay the much cheaper $52, even if you have to wait a bit to get it.

Anyone have a solution? My son has a Iphone with lightning charge but he most likely will get a new phone within the year. Is there any one of these devices that can handle both lightning and usb-c?

I'll give it a try at this price. I have the Kishi 1 and absolutely love it, especially for CoD. I have a Backbone as well, but I don't find it as comfortable as the Kishi 1. Curious how this one is as it looks to be a mesh between the two.

No, a Backbone+ subscription is not required to play games on an iOS with a Backbone One controller. You can use the Backbone One controller to play games and browse games without a subscription. The subscription only unlocks some software features and app experience.

I own both kishiv2 & backbone, ended up keeping the backbone.

Kishi's buttons are more tactile , and I personally prefer the feel of the grip.

Backbone has headphone jack, fast charging and also can fit certain phones with thin cases.

Biggest reason I kept the backbone is because i can use it as a wired controller for my tablet. Hook a USB C to USB C cable between both devices. Works like a charm wile the kishiv2 does not support.

I had a different experience, the Kishi v2 allowed me to use it with a case while the Backbone had trouble with it. There are these little tabs you can take off in these kind of products for the different types of phones you can use. No fast charging on Kishi v2 is a bummer though. I agree that the Backbone is of higher quality overall. The Kishi has rather mushy buttons, but surprisingly was better at registering Shoryuken inputs, in case you guys will want to play fighting games on it.

You could go for the gamesir g8 plus. It uses Bluetooth. I also recommend gamesir g8 over any of these smaller controllers for most uses. I use mine daily.

Also if you're going to have a gaming setup as a 4k player but want the most out of the gaming experience too, make sure your TV has hdmi 2.1, it's not necessary for 4k movies but is to get the most out of gaming visual experience

Care to share a link? Thanks.
They're on aliexpress and other chinese sites. Just search the model name like "D3S gamepad" or "D3S controller" because sometimes they block the keyword "BSP" since its the manufacturer and not the brand.

This looks good but no way to charge the device while playing?

Depends on where the charger port is, I guess. But no, not really. You could get creative and find a way to use a 90-degree cable/adapter. I've seen people do that. But the whole point of this controller is it doesn't attach to the device at all. It opens up a lot of possibilities like vertical mounting and such.
