I personally prefer my gamesir since I can do much more than the portal can. There are third-party apps like pxplay that work so much better than the official app for remote play. You'll find it's a highly debated topic here as there are plenty of diehard fans of the portal. I just preferred having more utility.

I haven't used a Backbone, but I have the USB-C version of the G8 and it's great. get the Gamesir G8+ or G8 Galileo over this. Similar price on Temu, I promise you that you won't regret it and will never look back. I had a backbone, made my hands cramp. It's fine for some, but I love the Gamesir's feel and it works quite flawlessly.

I don't know how fast your Chipset needs to be... but you may be able to emulate Nintendo switch games. You might need a snapdragon 8 gen 3... AKA... Lenovo Y700 2025.
I am able to emulate switch games using a 8845hs with no issues at all and Nintendo just did a deal to make their next switch using the 8840hs chipset.

That's the one that can be modded. The gamesir g8 and g8 plus can both be modded. I've never tried to mod the backbone, but I've seen people mod it for fitting phones without cases and smaller tablets.

Yes, you can. I have it. Just use the much better apps like PXPlay.

I'd recommend the Gamesir G8 over anything else. But yes, any controller would technically be able to do that. You can even use your dualsense controller with your phone if you want and stream your ps5 to it.

I also have the G8 and agree with everything. The full size buttons make such a difference. I used a friend's backbone and the buttons and joysticks are like those for a Switch. The G8's buttons are more like an actual Xbox controller's.

As a side note, on getting using the G8 with a case, if you have one of the thinner cases (and not like an otterbox or something), you can use an X-acto knife to cut away the rubber siding on the USB-C side that adds 1-2mm to the depth so that the USB-C plug goes a little deeper. It's just held on with some glue so you can pry it off with your fingers even. I have a Caseology Nano Pop on my iPhone 15 pro max and it did not work with the G8 originally, but with the rubber siding removed on one side I can just keep the case on when using it. YMMV obviously depending on the exact case you have, though if you are careful cutting the siding you can just glue it back on...
