The only thing that is holding me waiting for Synology is SHR vs RAID so I can start with 2 drives and easily add more.

That's not as simple on RAID right?

It's tough to tell but it seems like ugreenOS has an app to backup iPhone photos similar to synology and better hardware

This is a great piece of hardware. I own it and love it.

I didn't love it until I installed Unraid though. UGOS is lacking, but Unraid is a beast on this.

Thanks for the deal! I had originally purchased this from Amazon with the $70 off coupon promo, but this saves me $100!

SHR was a concern for me but after some reading it looks like you can change the raid without loosing data.

Looks like it's possible to install another OS? Also this is a Chinese company, any security concerns?
depend on what you have to hide, do remember U.S. law (Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act) requires companies operator in the U.S. to build in back doors for federal access since 1994.

so ya, if you have some thing that you want to hide form the fed (your cash transaction to avoid taxes for example, or that trip you took to epstein island), you might want to keep that in mind.

None of what you mentioned has anything to do with a NAS or consumer grade equipment. You sound like a Chinese plant.

if by pointing out the actual fact which doesn't support your perspective, and therefore you felt the need to use personal attack. then i wish you have a good day and continue whatever you are doing.

I don't mind things going to my government if it's standard. I do mind things going to a foreign government. that's why I said it was a Chinese company, duh.

which is why I didn't say you should or shouldn't choose certain product, that should be based on what information you want to store. But the best practice is to assume your data, if not encrypted ,will be accessed by someone, regardless of where that product is made or where the company is located. You should also be aware that a back door in. product may not always be accessed by the company or the government that enforced it. it may also be accessed by anyone that knows the back door. From the perspective, perhaps choosing better hw that provides you a faster encryption speed would be more preferred

Hard disagree. You should definitely consider the company and where it's made. At the end of the day, you have to have varying degrees of trust. There are whole levels of magnitude differences in the spying between the Chinese government and the Western world.

Guys can we please stop the spyware shit! Yes I am concerned that it comes from china but I have not read anything about spyware in the firmware/os unlike firebat or tp-link(not really confirmed yet) Now if it is found that they have back doors then I will change OS. The hardware & being able to switch OS is what sold me.
