I'm going on 15 years with my Craftsman gas mower and it's still going strong. I think the next will be an electric because the convenience and lower noise of battery tools has had me switching all of my outdoor equipment over to battery cordless tools, and the mower is the last piece of equipment that still has me dealing with winterizing and oil changes.

So, economically, I could purchase (if I needed one) a new Honda mower for about $600 OR I could purchase this machine for $2,000. The 10Ah batteries that come with this unit run about $400+ each. When the batteries start dying in 4+ years the costs will be even higher. Assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that the batteries all fail at about the same time, and (again) assuming that the mower is still useable at that time, the cost to replace all four batteries will be about $1,700 ... assuming that prices do not rise.
So, to summarize ... $2,000 for upfront costs PLUS an additional $1,700 every 4-5 years. The total cost of ownership of this mower will be $2,000 + $1,700 (year 5 replacement + $1,700 (year 10 replacement for a total of approximately $5,400 vice $600 for a new Honda mower plus new spark plugs and oil changes (incidentals).
Anyone who doesn't think this deal is worth it at 1,999, obviously doesn't know their pricing…batteries and charger are worth almost the price of this alone.
