I don't care about arguing on the Internet, just if anybody is looking to buy a drone, you don't need a phone to use it. This wasn't clear to me when I bought it and it's a huge plus.
We unload the mountain bikes, turn on the drone and go.
Obviously not where prohibited or around emergency responders.

It's never crashed, if it loses you, it just hovers and waits. If you don't go back in front of the camera I assume eventually it would land, but it's very controlled. We don't use it with low branches, that would obviously cause it to crash.
I bought the insurance, so I would use it on a boat, we did once.
I don't understand the comparisons to the flip, it's literally half the price. It's pretty rare in tech to not get a much better project for 2x the cost of something.
I will say using the phone app to control it is AWFUL. I would return this thing if that were the primary method of controlling it. If that's the "legal" way, that's a hilarious joke. Your phone has to connect to the Neo's access point, and modern phones hate connecting to access points that don't actually provide internet access. So if you turn off the screen and put the phone in your pocket for a minute, there's a great chance you've lost connection when you try to use the app again. If I used this a lot and wanted to manually control it instead of using the presets, I would get a controller.

they may be better off with this:
Specta Mini GPS Drone with 4K UHD Camera, Under 249g, 3 Aixs Gimbal Drone
https://www.amazon.com/Specta-Tra...9idGY&th=
its made by the same people from DJI and look like the mini 4k at $219 now.
it comes with the drone and the RC controller. and longer battery life.
with the Neo you have to get the controller separately. (flying with the smartphone app sucks from what I read and it is a frustrating expereince)
the Spectra/Mini4 is under 250gram so no registeration or course or certification neeed. but there is no propeller guard so be careful when flying if it's a younger child make sure you are outdoors with plenty of space to fly. some quick pointers
- don't fly above 400 ft
- don't fly over people
- until you are famliar with the controls and handling just stay away from buildings and trees.
- watch this 15 minute video for a newbie. helped me alot

I do not own a drone and I would consider myself a complete novice at operating one. My concern is buying something from DJI only to have the U.S. government kill it based on some of the legislation I have read here and there.
What's the risk of buying a DJI today only to have it killed by regulation?
