Replaced a 2nd gen Google wifi mesh system with this offering from ASUS this time last year - setup was a breeze and overall management has been extremely easy!

was about to jump on these and replace my TP-L but it looks like its 2.5Gb in and only 1Gb shared out of them...Kind of defeats the purpose unless you have 1Gb or less

It's 2.5Gb to the internet provider. So while your physical LAN connection is maxed at 1Gb the total network can use up to 2.5g. It's a decent setup when there are multiple "data-hungry" users. That being said, waiting on something with 2.5Gb LAN ports myself Smilie

ASUS is the only company which keeps offering free protection from malware and malicious websites on the router. Everyone else is charging yearly subscription fees. So just for that I'm considering ASUS. Not to mention their commitment for releasing security patches even for old models

we're saying the same thing...No point in having 2Gb from my ISP if i can only share 1Gb wired with these...My home is more wired than not, which is probably opposite of most...

i really just need new wire run and some switches, lol

For most of us, no, it's not. Out of the box, Asus gives a lot more options for managing your network and such, but if you just want to set up a fast, secure network, there is no benefit to this system over the Linksys ones.

Anybody can help the person considering the Linksys on how long Linksys provides updates for?

Is TP-link banned in the US yet?

Another reason ASUS is more expensive is it's great resell value. In part to it's continuous updates and lifetime parental/protection updates and continuous firmware updates. I don't think firmware updates are lifetime though...

I would test it, my old Cat5e does just fine for 2.5Gbps on a ~70ft long cable.

Is this better than an old orbi rb50? Not tech savy here.

In for one. Replaced the orbi50. Will report back on performance. Great price in comparison to Orbi RBK852 at $399.99 on amazon. This asus model is $278 on Amazon. Slickdeal!

Do I even need mesh if my old router works fine and I have no dead zones in my house? Doesn't seem like I would notice any performance upgrade. Maybe I'm missing something 😕

unless you live in a studio apartment, you have dead zones.. mesh or anything else is junk.
