I've got the Irwin version of this, had it for maybe 3 months, so far I've used it for:
1. Lift the front of a zero-turn mower to remove wheels / tires for repair.
2. Lift the front of a washing machine for belt replacement.
3. Lift and hold couches and other furniture for easy cleaning underneath.

Use jack stands before you stick anything squishy under anything heavy.

I bought two of these before Christmas for this price via Amazon. Great price.

The jacks are really solid and I've already found a bunch of uses for them.

Would you give us a few example of what you've used them for?

I used the two I have to lift and move a 200-lb washing machine up and over the edge of a leak pan onto the 6-inch-high base of a washer/dryer cabinet only 2.5 inches wider than the washing machine while only having access to the front of the cabinet.

They are handy to have if you do not have reliable help. I used a pair of these last week to temporarily lift up a Powerwall battery from the floor so that I could bolt it to a wall. In a couple of months I am going to upgrade a TV and I'll be using these to lift the TV on my cabinet to hook it to the wall mount.

I found that these really help lifting heavy items especially if you need to put wheels or dollies under.

I lifter a 10ft dining table onto dollies so i could move it out of the dining room without having to push it with two people.

Needed to get back to the outlet behind a king bed frame and mattress. Lifted the frame with the jacks put dollies under the feet and was able to move the bed out of the way a couple of feet.

Adjusting the feet on the new freezer in the garage to make it level on the floor.

Loaded work bench that needed to be moved to a new corner in the garage,

Moved the dryer and washing machine out of the way to fix a leaky connection and clean out the dryer vent, which was one of the main reasons i got them in the first place.

Other than the most obvious use of door installation, these are also great for adjusting the feet on appliances, lifting heavy furniture to put sliders under, installing wood flooring, removing fence posts... and I'm sure I'll find more random uses over time. Make sure whatever version you get (I have dewalt) has the lifting lever on top so that you can step on it to raise

Interesting. If I didn't already have about 20 various jacks and if this thing lifted more than 8-3/4" maybe.

I'd like to own one of these and gift one to my dad. Are they significantly more useful in pairs, (like jackstands and sawhorses) or is owning just one sufficient?

Yah, jacks will definitely do what these are designed to do. It is my experience that these are more precise than jacks in use -- I am sure you know this, but for others with an abundance of jacks and are thinking of getting these -- you can make due with the jacks, especially if you have a set of three smaller jacks - you can use the third jack to lift the item or appliance, make a precise change to the level of the second jack, and then release to the load on the third jack.

They are absolutely more handy in pairs, but as someone else pointed out, you can use stands to hold the load steady, move this jack to the other side and make the desired adjustment - a pair of these simply makes the process much quicker.
