You've still provided zero evidence they were SMR. Yes, I did point out that HAMR can be used in CMR or SMR drives. I challenged your assertion that:This is not at all true. Your own link only shows HAMR being used in some Mach 2 drives, which are themselves only a subset of the Exos line. That's hardly ALL of the CMR Exos line. A couple more tidbits to cement the point:Source [anandtech.com]Source [anandtech.com]
He's great at making one claim and then backtracking, then making another claim and being wrong but not liking that he's wrong so he tries to make other claims that make no sense. So odd...I should have known better when some braggart claims "I manage over 1PiB of data so I know what I'm talking about" like lmao, this is a great way to filter out someone you should pay no attention to.

I agree. And it's always nice when someone links to a source that proves your point.

This is CMR not MSR…

The **Seagate 24TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive** uses **CMR (Conventional Magnetic Recording)** technology.

Too bad about OOS. I will run CrystalDiskInfo on mine when it arrives tomorrow to inform future shoppers and hopefully avoid these debates again.

i already bought one and people still claim i am not evidence so dont bother.
Also the 20TB at best buy slick deal FP was SMR

its a pos

X24 exo is using a form of HAMR technology and is CMR

The first HAMR prototype was 20 years ago and has a proven track record for not failing , even WD is moving to this tech.

The two individuals above are oblivious to know whats going on because they dont know how to research articles.

Also HAMR makes no significant performance increase nor does it matter right now until the 30TB drives are released to consumers. They have already mass produced them and are in most big data centers now

already the 28TB CMR enterprise drives are trickling down from datacenters

Oct 22, 2023,08:30pm EDT
Seagate joins WDC with 28TB CMR HDDs and plans to use its HAMR HDDs in its Corvault storage systems by the end of 2023. TrendForce projects that DRAM and NAND prices will increase in the 4th quarter, indicating that storage demand is exceeding data center capacity inventories.

When you've had so many Seagate drives go bad why do you keep buying them? Is there some functionality that you prefer, price, or do you just enjoy punishing yourself?
nah, nah this external drive is the last one i bought 5 years ago (again barely use it) and i have stop. No more. And yes, it was cheap back then. Also some of those people said firmware update help, well it didn't

Awesome, mine arrives tomorrow but I wasn't planning to open it up like you did to confirm. Almost wish I bought 2.
This bare drive (edit: confirmed ST24000NM002H) is $200 more on Amazon right now ($479.99).

I just got mine today as well. Do not plan to shuck. Using this as a off-site back up for everything I have. Currently getting 12-14 mbs write speed on a 120gb+ transfer. Earlier comments mentioned sustatined 250mbs speeds so I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong. Do I need to do something out of the box? I just quick reformatted and starting to transfer but would appreciate someone sharing best practices for their drives. Also read some folks here using software like CrystalDiskInfo. Is this neccesary or more of a "good to know" how the drive is working? Thanks in Advance!
